When I did Sivananda Yoga back in 1973, there was a lady in the class who was a bit plump. For some reason didn’t go for 6 weeks and when I got back this lady lost 60lbs and barely recognized her. She had to do shoulder stand for 10 mins, plough for 10 mins and fish pose for 10 mins, each everyday.
She said that she’d tried dieting and going to Weight Watchers with no success for 3 years. Next thing I knew she’d stopped Yoga and my Teacher said she was spooked, thinking something demonic was going on, her being a hard-core Christian.
I’m not sure if the weight loss was due to these 3 extra poses or something from our teacher who seemed to have a healing gift. A friend who came to a class was immediately told he had a back problem, she did something and it was years later looking back that he told me he never had a back problem since that moment.
My 1st teacher (Guru) would be in her late 80’s now, be great if we met again.
