I have to say that all of the instructors at my studio are pretty darn good.

I met one last night for the first time though……….words can’t do her justice. Just so totally amazing and inspirational. One of my best classes yet.

Does anyone else look forward to going to certain classes based on the instructor?

Yes if I have the choice and time permitting. I will only to go to class when my favorite teacher(s) are teaching. They guide the class with clear slow dialogue, with occasional fun jokes. They walk around the studio to correct student. My least favorite teacher(s) are those that like to talk fast, sit or stand in the front of the class for the whole class, don’t walk around to correct student, and mean.

If I have no choice and with a least favorite teacher, I go with my own pace. It is my practice, my body.

I think everbody more or less does. I have a teacher who is practising Bikram Yoga for a long time and every time in her class I learn something new. It does not need to be a big change but it is a change nonetheless. I am always happy when she teaches.

That said, every teacher in my yoga studio has his or her own approach to Bikram and I learn different things from different teachers. And no one in my studio is mean. Mean persons have no business teaching yoga!

I’m with you there jtcb – those are great attributes!

I know I can use times when the teacher is similar to your least favorite to focus on “non-attachment” ie not let it bother me (and as you say, focus on your own practice, your own body) but frankly … I vote with my feet.

Anyway, I’m spoiled. I have “the doc” herself as my personal teacher 😉

It’s good to hear stories of the inspirational teachers around our world!

    NICE
thats too cute …. I do have teachers I prefer but I dont let it get to me too much
If I start to get wrapped up in something I remind myself that my higher power knows what I need better than I do and if this is what he gave me …..
    1. it must be what I need that day
    2. I better open my eyes and learn it now or he may make me do it again !! LOL

All the teachers at my studio are really good. Some are better than others. But I don’t limit myself to one particular teacher (or rotation of teachers) because they all have their own unique style. Each one brings something different to class. The collective result of all these amazing teachers is a greater personal improvement for myself on a physical and mental level that I could not achieve by having the same teacher each time.

So, to answer the original post, I don’t look forward to going to certain classes based on the instructor. I go based on my schedule and whatever teacher happens to be on at that time is great with me.

I have a small studio. The owner teaches 99% of the classes. And I would never have stuck with the practice if it weren’t for this man’s meditative, non-invasive style. It’s nice to go to classes in other studios around the world and find that I can reach that internal space even when the teacher is bouncing off the walls.

haha, I like that approach and I’ll use it next time I get my least favorite teacher.

In the studios here in The Netherlands, we usually don’t know who is scheduled to teach on any given day so we can’t choose a class based on the teacher.
