I had ankle sprain two months ago during jungle tracking.
After injury, i rotate my ankle and point, that time still can do that motion,
after a while, i can’t walk normally, i got to turn out my one leg, so i don’t feel the pain. I continue the trip.
After two days, i able to walk normally, but is still swelling.
Now, i start practice yoga, is it ok? But my ankle still swelling.
i have no problem stand on one leg, but i can’t do child post, when my body weight sit on the ankle, i feel pain. also i can’t point my leg.
I see the doctor recently, from the X ray, my bone is ok, so the doctor suspect ligament tear.
So is it good to continue doing rotation on my ankle.
Yoga post sometimes fold the leg, my injured ankle feel very uncomfortable.
I am wondering why my ankle take so long to recover? since is not serious in the beginning.with a tear you DONT want to stretch it out any more so I would avoid the yoga for a while. tears can take a long time to heal so keep checking in with your doctor
AnonymousGuestApril 17, 2010 at 8:23 pmPost count: 98See a physician. See a physiotherapist. Ligament tears take forever to heal. Exercise can make this worse, no matter what the exercise form. Heal up. Yoga will always be there. If you want to keep up your fitness, think about swimming.
Why make a bad situation worse?
Thanks for the advise, i think i will now stop practising.
Hi Chin
When you go for more medical or physical advice make sure you find out what you CAN do. It is important to maintain the right movement around your ankle so that scar tissue doesn’t unduly limit you in the future. You definitely don’t want to be encouraging any swelling with your exercise – whatever it is.
Good luck!

Gabrielle 🙂I have had several injuries and found that going to yoga helped with a faster recovery. I just did what I could do and sometimes that meant not doing certain poses at all do to pain. I think the only time I have not gone was if I had a fever. Even my Plantar Fasciitis improved although it took many months. In addition to Hot Yoga I see a very skilled Physical Therapist. The P.T. has done Hot Yoga and has assisted with learning better alignment. My injuries have made my Hot Yoga practice more meaningful and has allowed me to deal with life far better.
