I noticed that some days, I just can’t do a pose where I have already progressed in other prior yoga sessions. I always feel good after each yoga session regardless so I don’t really think there are bad yoga days… but was just wondering whether there is such a thing given this observation…
Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this? Why does it happen?
Very normal!
Possible factors: stress, hydration, time of day, fatigue, diet etc
Hi Grace
In order to know the cause of this feeling it would be necessary to know if it’s a general thing, if there are any poses you have difficulties with (or if some poses just don’t feel right or present challenge or have you feeling it’s hard) or if indeed it’s simply because of your emotional or energy tides.
Feel free to shoot back a reply with some more detail
Namaste
Gabrielle 🙂I go through this too.
My teachers have said it depends on lots of things……how we ate that day, how we slept the night before, are we hydrated enough…….
It could also have to do with residual stiffness/muscle soreness, whether it’s from yoga or doing other things in your daily life. Or just not having the mental focus that you did during your previous class – letting distractions get to you.
But I think just keeping in mind that progress rarely goes in a straight line is important. The more you expect yourself to do just as well or better than you did the time before, the harder it is do to so. I’ve noticed on occasion that I sometimes have breakthroughs in poses when I’m tired and expect nothing of myself – it helps me relax into a pose in a way I hadn’t previously (where I was apparently fighting myself and creating unnecessary tightness.)
Great points!! I had a tough class yesterday (it was my 4th for the week) and I really think it had to do with the fact that I just couldn’t focus well for whatever reason.
I took today off, but I am absolutely going back in the AM!
