posted it in the wrong place, so have moved it here to faq… Thanks Gabrielle for a fantastic site. I love coming & reading this forum… I often get a completely blocked ear after class & it lasts for hours. It’s really annoying as it interferes with my hearing. Does this happen to anyone else & is there a reason for this ? I thought maybe all the sweat could be getting in there when I lie in savasana ? Thanks for any ideas.

    Hi Jacquie

I have had the same problem. I find the more regularly I practice I don’t get it, but if I miss a few days in a row and then go back to class my ears will often block up. Yes, its very frustrating so I would welcome anyone’s ideas on how to get rid of it too! 🙂

Hi guys – sorry for my delayed reply – meant to get to this but was reminded in yoga today.

I *do* sometimes get this – only when it is very humid (or the room is full) and I am pretty sure for me it is sweat collecting in the ear – same as I can have a blocked ear sometimes for a few hours after spending some time in the swimming pool.

I’ve found it does help to really try to get the ear on the towel in the floor poses (when looking one way then the other in savasana) – and I have noticed, as a result of your post here putting my attention on it, that I have had a habit of clearing out sweat collecting in my ear quite unconsciously during class!

I’m not sure why this would change according to regularity of practice, unless as one settles into routine, the body adjusts its position to avoid sweat collecting in the ear.

    🙂

Thanks for your response Robert. I will make a point of seeing if I can get my ear even more on the floor. Love this site & really appreciate all the work you & Gabrielle put into it. Namaste

Get some swimmers ear drops as this really helps and the other thing that I notice is that if I ensure my face, jaw, neck are not tense then the popping in the ear does not occur at all. Also when you turn your head after the pose you really need to melt into the mat and relax and this will help relax the ear canal.

This happens to me all the time all most every practice. I started taking a zyrtec, or antihistamine about an hour before practice and it seems to really help what seems to feel like fluid in my ear. I hope this helps!
