On the wind removing pose why is the sequence acending,decending then transverse colon flushing; why not acending, transverse then decending as per your body: or is it purely for the muscular part of leg stretch?
Posted by kev on 01/22 at 07:57 PMHey Kev
good noticing! It does make perfect sense to massage in that order. After all we can do that clockwise digital massage on the belly to get everything moving in the right direction.
I guess from another standpoint, the single leg lifts prepare the body for the double leg lift. It would be worth a little experiment but you might find that doing that lovely deep stretch on only one leg first may hamper your ability to get as deep into that double leg one for both legs. Just wondrin’.
Anyway, there is much to this pose besides muscular. You work hip stretches, arms and finger strength, tone arms (biceps use), stabilize pelvis, help iron out asymmetries in the spine, to name just a few. The digestive stuff is a big part, and works synergistically with the chin tuck to also massage into and tone the thyroid and parathyroid glands.
I am sure I didn’t include everything. I would be happy to hear the thoughts of all of you out there.
Cheers!

Could you post a picture of the wind removing pose? I am not familiar with this unless you could give the asana name of the pose.
A friend of mine is having a problem getting her little boy to poop.
I suggested this posture, though she is not overly familiar with yoga.Would someone be able to tye out directions I can send to her so she might have the boy (or entire family) 🙂 go down into this pose once or twice a day to encourage the boy??
Pavanamuktasana = Wind removing pose
Hello Edge
You didn’t mention the age of the child. The first exercise below is generally used for babies.
As babies, this would generally happen on a change-table. The carer holds the feet their palms against the soles and basically pushes one knee up to the shoulder and the other just like the pose, or perhaps easier to describe, like a bicycle. These should be slow movements down to massage those organs more deeply. Then just like the double leg part of the pose, push both legs in. This is very relaxing and relieving for the child. They love it and it is a nice chance to connect and provide physical touch.
The other great thing that works for babies and adults alike is to massage in a circle around the abdomen. If you start at the top of the right leg, move vertically up toward the ribcage, across to the stomach and then down to the left leg and so on. Use the pads of the fingers into the belly move in a clockwise direction.
Both these methods have a physical softening effect and gets the contents moving down.
Hope that helps you
Namaste
