    Hi again!

I didn’t manage to do my 30 day challenge (23 in 30… I got sick) I’m starting again this month. Yesterday I had to do a double in order to keep up. I was working all day today so I couldn’t do class.

First class was terrible. Started to feel dizzy (rarely happens now) but then numb in my left hand and both feet. I had to skip a couple postures.

Compulsive and determined like I am. Came out of class grabbed a coco water (very good for electrolytes and potassium) and went back in for a second class. Half moon was terrible. I was cramping and having muscle spasms in my obliques. My legs were numb. My teacher told me to sit out and drink water for 2 postures. I did. I went back in and I was still very weak in my legs. Felt so cold I had goosebumps. After 30 min, I started to kick ass and eventually everything went away!

I have no clue what happened. Is it exhaustion? Dehydration from all the classes I’ve done?

I drink a good amount of water and take electrolytes supplements. I really don’t know what happened. It also happened to me last week. I’m a bit concerned. Especially with me starting the challenge again.

There’s something wrong with this whole picture you’re presenting here, 26, to me. Yoga is supposed to be relaxing, quiet meditation, something that’s always there for us, a peaceful, stretching, strength-building place to go to get away from the stresses of life – 90 minutes for you and your body!

It’s not supposed to be pushing and doing doubles to “keep up” and stressing yourself to be on some imagined schedule.

Chill out, step back, regroup, take care of yourself. I don’t want to sound like I’m lecturing, but you’re worrying me.

Thanks for worrying 😉 I’m better. I don’t feel as strong as before but I’ve been resting a lot. I’m actually doing all of this because I want to know if I’m up for teacher training.

Well, teacher training comes along every year.

Bonnie, Maybe it’s because I’m inside my first year of Bikram, but haven’t found much in the 90 minutes that is relaxing or peaceful meditation. Stress relieving, yes. For me, it’s been more of pressing the limit, with minimal recovery, in order to see slight improvement every other day or so. I am learning patience though. Maybe chanting would help. %-P

No need to chant, stand quietly and face yourself in the mirror. What the teachers say about no extraneous movement is really true, the less movement, the more focus you can have. Concentrate on breathing slowly and peacefully, even when you’re trying really hard. I haven’t found that lengthening and opening comes with straining and pulling so much, for me it comes with breathing deeply and letting the strain fade away. For instance, Standing Head to Knee, the quad on the standing leg is working really hard, then the quad on the top leg too is working really hard, but it allows a release in the hamstring and lower back.

And then, of course, between each posture there’s time for quiet breathing and stillness.

Ahhhhh, I will enjoy class today. Have a great day!

For the first time in six months, it’s warm and sunny here today. I think maybe winter is really over!!! 🙂

I am worried too when I read this post. There is something your body is REALLY trying to tell you! Either not enough water or energy for what you are doing. I also cannot speak to it without knowing your routines and HOW you practice. That being said the BEST explanation I EVER heard about about this yoga was this….
Are you type A personality? my answer … yes
in yoga we need to give a true 110 %, you need to give your 80% because as a type A are already giving 150 !
Type B types give ‘their’ 150% and need to be pushed to find the true 110%

I found this SO lifting! Not just in yoga but in my other activities and and in LIFE. AHHHH! You mean I don’t have to kill myself all the time .. 🙂 ‘my’ 80% is a where MY balance and ‘sweet’ spot is. Not just in yoga as I said but everywhere. I don’t need to be superwoman !!! I can suddenly breathe 🙂

    Fraseram,

Yes i am def a type A personality. Sometimes I just think I’m compulsive. Thanks for the advice. I’m actually much better. I rested a lot last weekend. I’m still up for my 60 days but will give up if anything like that happens again. So far all my back problems went away in the past few weeks. i’m quite happy. I’ve been taking electrolytes supplements to stay hydrated. I’m doing whatever I can to recuperate and enjoy the next class. Because yes I do enjoy them very much. 😉
