Hi Gabrielle,
Quick question: Does the “elbows in your back pocket” tip apply only in yoga class or can you adopt this principal in everyday life? I have hunched shoulders (which I’m not sure what it stems from – laziness perhaps??) and I am wondering if it would help to adopt this posture in everyday life. Thanks for any advice.
SandraHi Sandra…
I definitely try to apply this outside of yoga! It becomes more natural the more you practice – I have found it’s like any habit and takes some time to form. It is amazing how remembering to “put your elbows in your back pockets” helps relax your shoulders, engage your abdominal muscles and just be more upright!
Cheers,

Gabrielle 🙂yes yes and yes…. lol since applying this technique not only has my practice changed but my everyday posture (which lets face it is really the goal is it not…. to enhance life OUT of the yoga room!!) I have two compression fractures in my spine due to osteo fragility and had alway a stiff sore back esp. while sitting for long periods. now I have NO pain full range and a nice bendy relaxed spine. My chiropractor is amazed at the changes in me.
Thanks to everyone….very helpful advice!!
