Hi all,
I am currently undertaking the Bikram yoga 30 day challenge, and today is Day 13…still a long way to go!
While it is a long way to go…I am more determined than ever to complete the whole 30 days! My muscles are beginning to ache and I am feeling sore! This isn’t such a problem in all honesty…a nice long hot soak helps.
I am really feeling mentally exhausted…but I am getting about 8 hours sleep a night! I am drinking more water than usual to ensure I have hydrated well, and I am eating well too (not more than usual). I drink coconut water to ensure I replace my electrolytes. I am not sure how to overcome this extreme sleepiness…
any thoughts/suggestions would be most welcome

Hi Devi
By now you should have finished your 30 day challenge. I have a few questions for you.
Did you go 30 days in a row?
What breaks, if any did you take?
Did you keep going after your 30 days?
Did the aches continue on your 30 day challenge?
Does your body still ache? The reason I ask is because this is very common… and I would like to know the answers to see if there is something else I can do for you

Gabrielle 🙂Hello there,
Thank you for getting back to me! I am pleased to say that I have completed the 30 day challenge and my goodness it feels great! In answer to your questions:
Did you go 30 days in a row?
I did do all 30 days consecutively
What breaks, if any did you take?
I took no breaks throughout the challenge
Did you keep going after your 30 days?
yes, today will be my first rest day so I managed to do 32 days in all
Did the aches continue on your 30 day challenge?
yes, the aches did continue, more so in my glutes than anywhere else. I did have some aching in other areas but it didnt last as long.
Does your body still ache?
Only in my glutes, they still appear to be very sore, tight and stiff. even causing some aching in my lower back areaHope this info will help
Thank you and Namaste
Hi Devi
I will get onto a detailed explanation (or provide links or both) but suffice to know for the moment, that your problem is extremely common.
It is a combination of being shown/taught/instructed wrong technique for a number of key poses. It’s a common misunderstanding of the way the body works in the poses to get the best most effective stretch. This problem shows up in the lower back and the buttocks (sciatica is one way it manifests).
As a result of the continued lessons every day the body has no chance to rest.
So in effect the daily classes have shown you that your technique is needing some help. If you had a break now and then your issue would still be there but not as urgent. So I guess it’s good that you know
Be back soon with some links

Gabrielle 🙂Thank you very much, I will be back in the studio tomorrow so hopefully I will see some improvements

Hi Devi
For starters please go and look at the blog post: Opening Up Your Hamstrings With Hot Yoga! It is sure to point you in the right direction. You might also like to ensure that you take electrolytes… Sometimes I put sea salt in my water with some lemon juice during class.

Gabrielle 🙂Thanks very much for the link – I will check it out for sure. With regards to the electrolytes I have been replacing them with sea salt, a dash of lemon juice in my water too! I find that it has made such a difference
Thanks again
Namaste
