Hi All –
I have been practicing Bikram yoga for 6 years. In the past year, I have been getting fevers and illness the day after my class. At first I thought it was just a coincidence.. but it has happened again – it has now happened to me 5 times in 2012 alone!
I will explain what happens: I go to yoga – have a decent class and then the next morning, or sometimes that night even I end up with a fever. And this is not just a little fever.. it turns into a raging illness and I usually end up needing antibiotics within a few days for either a sinus or ear infection. I am wondering if the yoga is capable of activating some infections that I may be harboring or would have been able to fight off otherwise?
I don’t know what to do at this point. I feel like I should quit going to yoga altogether. I can’t afford to get sick anymore and it is feeling like the connection is between my classes and getting sick is undeniable.
I’ve wondered the same thing about myself because when I do catch a cold/fever, it seems to happen after I practice. This has happened to me 3x in the past 3 years. For what it is worth, my theory is: the “sickness” is already in the body, you made mention of “body harboring.” My take is: The yoga helps to bring out, detoxify or bring up whatever needs to come up for release. It’s a good thing.
Some food for thought. Just curious. On a scale of 1-10, looking at your past year, how stressful was it? Any MAJOR stuff happen? Overall, how was your diet? In general, have you been happy and optimistic or ? There are so many variables that could be attributed to the cause and not just the yoga. Thanks for sharing.
Namaste’
I’ve been practicing yoga for years and sometimes that happens too. An easy remedy to it is hot lemon juice. It’s water together with some freshly squeezed lemon. Hope this helps.
