Today I am going to my first class, I am a little nervous. This site has been great on all the information. I wouldn’t of known to bring a towel or just what to expect.
I have wanted to try it for a long time and our studio is running a special of 10 dollars for two weeks unlimited. My question is if you are just starting how often should you go? I will report back after my first class!Marilyn
Okay, just finished my class, I loved it, in some way it was easier than my regular yoga. I do have a bit of a headach and wondered if that was normal. I plan on going back tomorrow. Also should you let yourself cool way down, on the way home I drove with the windows open then wondered if that was a good idea.
MarilynYEY! You did it. Didn’t you feel good about yourself? I think the headache is normal. Our bodies respond in all different ways to the heat and the detoxifying that is taking place. I had a lot of nausea when I began.
I think it’s fine to cool down like that…I do. I turn on the A/C in my car and then take a nice cool shower when I get home.
Pamela
Thank you Pamela, I really liked it and plan on going tomorrow, I can’t wait! Was talking to a friend about it and she decided to try it too.
Marilyn
I was so afraid when I first started. Now I can’t get enough. It keeps me grounded. I had never done any yoga before. When I am not in the studio i am on this site. I hope your friend enjoys it too. Keep us posted.
Pamela
it is always so exciting to see people discovering themselves in new ways and trying new things …. congrats to you both.
the headache IS common but not the way it ‘should’ be a headache could be a sign of dehydration or heat exhaustion so be careful and take it easy.Thank you to both of you. I was so nervous for my first time, today I am much more relaxed.
Maybe since I am doing the morning one I didn’t drink enough water also during it I didn’t drink except when everyone did and this time I will drink when we are done with poses which the instructor said we could do, I was also afraid to drink too much
in case I needed to go to the restroom, then I saw if we need to leave we can quietly leave. So I am ready to go this morning and enjoy myself.I also am so glad I found this site, the information is wonderful and movtivating!
I think that once you get your regular practise going, you will naturally start drinking enough water through your day ( at least 3 -4 L ). I believe that you shouldn’t really have to drink water throughout your practise and I aim to have a practise where I’ve drank enough outside of the studio that I don’t need a lot of rehydrating during the practise. (and I sweat A LOT!). Also, you’ll feel better without a full stomach of water in there gushing around.
Try drinking a coconut water or something with a bit of electrolytes after (and/or before). Water flushes right through us – your dehydration and headache likely requires something with electrolytes that the body can actually hold onto.enjoy!!
Thank you for your input, I did drink a lot of water yesterday and actually more during the workout and didn’t have a headache. Will try less during class and just more afterwards. I do have coconut milk but not water, would that work?
Day 3 tomorrow I am pretty sore right now but a good sore.
Marilyn
NO!! not the same thing! It must be coconut WATER not milk.
Sounds like you had a good experience today though. Good for you!!!Okay will check into getting coconut water! Thank you
MarilynMade it to day 3, feeling better, back ws sore yesterday. Tomorrow will have to go after work and we will see how tht works.
I went at lunch and got some coconut water, drank some after workout and felt good.
It is interesting going to so many different times of yoga and the different teachers. Some are very proactive in helping you get into the moves others aren’t. I was very impressed with the afternoon class. I can feel I am going further into the stretches. I have also noticed during the day I am more concious on my posture.I was reading some posts on alcohol and I do like my evening drink but almost right away noticed I wasn’t enjoying it and so for the last two days havne’t had anything but water and feel fine with that.
We have finally gotten our summer weather here in Seattle (Renton) WA and so it is really a mindset to go to class instead of outside in the sun but I am committed to doing this for 14 days(length of my pass). Posting here is helping me keep myself accountable.
Excellent Roxiegirl!!!! I’m in Vancouver, so, YES, am also celebrating our arrival of summer yesterday. FINALLY!!! (geesh!)
Glad that you liked the coconut water. I always drink one on the way to class – it’s become my regular ritual.
In terms of the alcohol… yeah, I can’t drink while practising regularly. If I’m going to yoga the next day, I won’t drink the night before. It’s just too dehydrating and I find that I have a rough class the next day. It’s not worth the drink or two, I find.Keep posting here to be accountable! I’ll respond!
Enjoy the summer weather today (it’s going to be a hot one!) and have a great class too!!Yes it was warm and the next two days are suppose to hit the 90’s. I did go to class and was able to push myself more but am sore now! When I got home my husband said a hot yoga studio by Greenlake was in the news. The people coming out said they loved this weather because after being in class it felt cool to walk outside, he thought that was so funny.
I have only been sipping a little of the coconut water, wasn’t sure how much I should drink so now I will drink more.
Thank you for the encouragement, I appreciate it!
Marilyn
Marilyn,
Sounds like you are in the Seattle area, me too!Weather has been great. When I go to morning classes I make sure to hydrate well the evening before. I cannot drink a lot right before class because I don’t like my stomach full. I don’t even drink a lot durning class because doing the spine postures are very uncomfortable for me with a lot of water in my tummy.
I had coconut water last night after class, I was feeling a little low blood sugar, it perked me right up, didn’t care for the flavor. I will try the type with pineapple next.
Yes I am in Renton and go to the Renton studio. I am drinking less water during class too. I saw they had a few flavors of coconut water but I have always liked the taste of coconut water so have no problem with it.
I am finding it interesting having so many instructors and different styles. They are all good and I think it is great. Day five and still loving it,
MarilynWOW. Isn’t that funny, a huge web forum and we go to the same studio? We have probably been in some of the same classes at one point or another. Having different instructors is interesting and there are some I like better than others but I learn different things from each.
I will try the coconut water with pineapple next time. Is there a place to get it besides the studio nearby?
I usually go to the 4:30 class during the week and am trying the mornings on Saturday. Considering trying to do the 6days a week like Bikram suggests in his book since I am fairly new too.
Pamela, that is just too funny, were you there last night with the instructor with all
the tatoos? I started last Sat with the 7:30 am class and on sun, then Monday went to the 6:15 am class and during the week the 4:30pm class.I am in the back kind of the middle!! I got my coconut water at Fred Meyers, they had a few flavors and it is over by the health food stuff. Has a special 2 for 4 dolalrs.I think regular 2.99.
Now to make this even funnier is LInda, the instructor that taught Sat and Sun am
and then wed pm’s class came in to my office yesterday. I work at a local High School
and she came with her daughter to pick up something. Was fun because she then answered a few questions I had. I just love this yoga and when my pass is over I
won’t do it as often due to cost but for sure will continue.I will look for you tonight!
Marilyn😀
I wasn’t there last night, took the night off. Was there tues and wed. The tattoo guy is Grant. When he does yoga he sweats tons! What HS? My daughter is going into 9th grade at Lindbergh next year.
Linda is great, I was at her Wed. class and last Sat 9:30am. She is the one who convinced me not to be afraid and that I could do this. I love her! I signed up for a year and they have that special of $500. They let me split it into 2 payments. I decided I was worth it. It’s hard for me but I had to do it.
I will be there tonight, 4:30. I am always next to a post, overweight…can’t balance worth a damn. Lay down a lot. LOL Brown yogi toe towel over a green mat.
I am the one with no shoes on…Just kidding.
Pamela
I am at Kentridge! Okay, I will look for the person with no shoes…too funny.
I will probibly try to work out something. I have a hard time balancing too.
Sometimes I do well then others not at all.Okay, will look for you tonight!
