    Hi Gabrielle,

I have been doing power yoga for almost 3 years now and your articles, videos and tips help a great deal. Our studio maintains a temperature of 20 to 22 degree celcius due to Mumbai’s warm climate but in couple of classes when the Air conditioner did not work some of us (students) felt we could stretch better and do deep bending asanas better , voiced our opinion to our yoga instructor but he said its all in the mind and the most ideal temp is 20-22 c or else we could get dehydrated .

what should be according to you the most ideal temp. for doing power yoga?

    Thanks 🙂

    Hi Sudha

Thanks for posting! I appreciate your kind comments.

I personally have a great dislike for exercising in a cold room. It seems to me to be counteractive to the idea of warming up the body.

It has never made sense to me in gyms or yoga studios. Although I do like to have FRESH AIR with good flow through an exercise space. However I am aware that people have different preferences. I almost NEVER like to have a fan directed right at me regardless of the temperature.

I do not think it is in your mind. Your body is responding to the ambient temperature.

With power yoga there is a lot of heat building in the body. Can you tell me if you are feeling your body warming up with your practice? It seems clear that your body feels cold(er) with the air conditioning on. Is the teacher not amenable to trying the system at 25 degrees or 27 degrees? Or perhaps you could measure the temperature in the room when there is no airco on. And of course you would survey the students for their opinions. If nothing else it would be a good experiment.

    Namaste

    Namaste Gabrielle,

Thank you very much for your reply , i will share it with my batch mates as we all face the same concern , yesss… you guessed it right the teacher feels – as we sweat out a lot while doing yoga( sometime very intense ones, 40 -45 mins without a break ) he says we will get de-hydrated if we keep temp at 25 and above.( we are allowed few sips of water once )

At the end of the class we all feel a little uncomfortable due to icy fingers and toes but sweaty body!!

Perhaps we all will request him to keep windows open and let the fresh air come in.

Thanks again for your kind reply and valuable time
