Gabrielle, I have narrowly escaped surgery due to a herniated disk at the L5, S1 vertebrae. I was successfully treated (thus far) with epidural injections and am slowly getting back to my regular work out and have considered getting back into hot yoga. I practiced years ago but never quite reached a level of comfort with the poses. Due to my past injury, what advise would you give and what specific poses or positions should I modify or pay special care to. I do not want to reinjury myself in the least. One other comment, I would love it if you could add the timing of poses to the position descriptions.

    Hello Shelley

Please would you tell me the types of movements that are now causing you pain? You say you are working out so what are you doing? What sets off the pain? For example: Are you able to do any forward bending at all? How do backbends affect you? What about general levels of comfort, when you are not exercising?

I do have some guidelines for you but I would really prefer to hear a little more about your condition.

I am very pleased you managed to avoid surgery!

    Namaste
    Gabrielle 🙂
