    Hi all,

I started practicing hot yoga two weeks ago, and have been going 3 times a week so far. So that’s 6 classes I’ve been to. I hadn’t worked out and done any sports in a long while, I’m 25 years old. I’m not particularly overweight and don’t have any physical issues.

However, I am a bit concerned and thought I’d seek advice here among more experienced people, hoping you can help me.
I have been on the pill for a few months now. I take it for 21 days, then stop for 7 days and I usually have my period 4 days after I stop the pill. My concern is the following: today (Saturday) is the last day I’m meant to be taking the pill before the 7 day rest. However, I have had light brown discharge for the past 5 days. Because I’m going away with my boyfriend next Thursday, I was thinking of taking the pill back to back without doing the 7 day rest, to avoid having my period on vacation.
Do you think I can still do this? Is the brown discharge a normal thing when practicing hot yoga?

I really hope you can help me, as I’m worried my pill may no longer be effective although I’ve been taking it correctly…

In advance thanks for your help.

    Namasté

    Sarah,

I am not a doctor or a nurse, so my first recommendation is to call your doctor and run this by them. Not because I think this is anything serious, but because they will know more about the causes of this side effect. I have not been on the pill in over 5 years, but I do remember that there can be an adjustment period in the beginning. Also the hot yoga can cause changes in your body as well. I’ve been doing hot yoga for about 2 months, and my periods have come a little earlier, but have also been lighter. However, I would not change the sequence of taking your pill, without talking to your doctor. It may be perfectly fine to take the pills during the 7 rest period. But if there is a chance that it could make it less efficacious, then it wouldn’t be worth the risk.

    Good wishes,
    Dawn

good advice all the way around !! I’ve been on the bill since I was 12 years old (I’m 32) …. My body does not produce hormones naturally and is what I take for my therapy. I follow the recommendation of NOT messing with your cycle. I would tell your doc about the discharge too. If your just starting it CAN take some time for your body to adjust but I would def address it,
