Hello Community! What a wonderful web site, such a good idea to break up the postures into their own sub-forums!

Anyways, I have this question and the title says it all. I am currently on my third day of teacher training and I am really starting to feel the cramps right around the corner in just about every muscle in my legs, as well as in other places. Its at the point where I have not yet had a cramp, but its only because I have been moving gingerly and “pulling out” just before the cramp sets in. However I think Ive taken that strategy as far as it can go because I cant control things when I sleep, and its been building up so I think tonight or tomorrow night I will get something while I sleep. SO. diet, messages, take it easy, ignore it – the body will adjust in another week. thats what I am hearing all around me. any other helpful suggestions??

    Thanks, Namaste!

    Hello O

Usually muscle cramps because of hot yoga has a lot to do with lost electrolytes. You’ve probably heard that if you have a muscle cramp that you take salt. Well, in this case make sure you have sea salt in your food and or in your water. And or electrolyte supplementation.

Naturally you have to drink a LOT of water for your practice. The water intake coupled with your sweaty practice tends to flush out a lot of your body’s resources, so please make sure you balance water intake and practice with a good supply of salt/electrolytes.

This ought to clear up for you very quickly. Still be careful for a few classes. Just be mindfully aware. The salt you take by the way can be part of your diet. It doesn’t have to be electrolyte or fancy schmancy expensive labelled products. You’ll know what makes you feel good. 😉

Thank you for your response. It seems that — as mentioned above — I created this account while I was at training. Then — as things can happen at training — I lost sight of things and totally forgot I had an account here.

Anyways, better late than never, and so thank you for your response to my question about muscle cramps. During training I quickly found out about using salt, and that was helpful.

Over the years I have come across a few other things which future readers of this thread may find useful: The combination of bananas and coconut water goes a long way!
