I just need to tell everyone and anyone who will listen! I think I have conquered Camel pose!
I have been doing Bikram yoga for a couple of months now, about 3 times a week. Of course when I first started I couldn’t do anything, but then I had a breakthrough after a few weeks. I began to see the wall behind! Then my instructor helped me find my heels because I was having difficulty. So I finally was able to do Camel until one day we had an instructor who was VERY rigid,I mean, no one liked her very much at all because she was so tough. The room was exceptionally hot and humid and it was a full class. I tried the first set and got so nauseous and dizzy  that I couldn’t hold the pose and was about to bring myself forward, when she stopped me and told me to just stay upright on my knees. I thought I was going to faint! Ever since then, everytime I tried to do Camel, I’d get dizzy and sick and end up sitting it out. That went on for a month.
I stumbled on this forum and read Gabrielle’s tips about the pose. I realized that the reason I probably got dizzy was because of where I focused my eyes.I had a tendency to look up, because I was afraid of looking back. In the beginning I was successful with Camel because I would look BACK, but then I got out of the habit of that due to fear and anxiety.
Last night at class, I used the tips I read for Camel as well as other poses and they worked! :wow: I did both sets with no nausea or dizziness!
I think yoga is the only form of exercise where you constantly learn new things no matter how small or subtle that helps you improve your performance as well as awareness of yourself. Does that make sense? :-/

    Thank you Gabrielle!!

Well done bette27, the camel is not my favourite pose either.

    You have done well.
