Namaste Gabrielle!
I am anxiously awaiting my home yoga practice kit and have started attending bikram yoga at a local studio. As a certified ashtanga instructor, i love the push and the intensity i experience with hot yoga.
Now to my question…. i am scheduled for laser eye surgery in june. should i refrain from all types of yoga while i heal or refrain from hot yoga? this may be a question for my eye doctor but i was wondering how long after surgery i should wait until i start into hot yoga again.Any advice would be most appreciated
Namaste,
RoxHi Rox
Would you believe that the beautiful blond woman on the front of my manual etc in the Fixed Firm pose also had laser eye surgery fairly recently? I will try to get in touch with her this weekend for the details of what she did (as she is a yogini).
My understanding is that the healing process can be short. But as with any surgery, healing will depend on the individual’s own systems and resources. The eye is not a great barrier to infection and can be quite susceptible. This is why rubbing your eyes and other irritant behaviors or elements would be best avoided at the time.
It may be that you will be advised to avoid the scenario of sweat dripping on your face and in your eyes and that a more gentle form of yoga is recommended.
I am interested to hear of anyone else’s experience or opinion!
Namaste
Gabrielle 🙂I can not speak for laser eye surgery but I can speak about surgery in general. I’ve had minor and major procedures done and from the minor stuff like scopes and endoscopies ect I was feeling fine and ready to go with in a couple of days with my major stuff ( i broke my hip and had four surgeries to fix it finally getting a hip replacement ) It was about two or three weeks to enter the hot room though on a limited practice and slowly building back.
