hi,
I’ve been practicing for about a year now. My locust has hit a plateau… I can lift my legs up to about 80 degree angle with them being straight locked and feet together. Once i get there… I can’t get any higher. Feels like my shoulders are too tight. I’ve asked my yoga teacher who is able to do the scorpion and she basically told me once you find the way it’s easy to lift up your torso. Its been 4 months that I tried to find a way… it’s getting a bit frustrating. Any tips?
Thank you!
AnnieOnce you are up pretty high, lower a tiny bit, separate your heels a little bit and go up higher, then bring the heels back together.
Hi Annie
Thanks again monkeypicked!
OK Annie, just interested in your shoulder comment. Can you describe that? I wonder when you feel the tightness. Is it all the time, even in the single leg lift. Or is it as you lift your legs your shoulders start to roll in toward each other because of the tightness and you feel a little stuck? Or maybe something else? 😉Namaste
Gabrielle 🙂Thank you for the advice, I’ll try it at the class tomorrow!
Gabrielle, my shoulders are very tight to begin with. When I do locust with both legs only, I do feel both of my shoulders going inward. My whole upper back and shoulders are stiff ( I have a really hard time at rabbit too). I checked the stretching guide. I will follow it and see if I can get some better results with that.
Thank you very much for your time. It is so appreciated.
Annie
You are welcome Annie!
I think this is your key. You will get much more ‘purchase’ from the ground and be able to direct your energies appropriately when you manage to use your arms and shoulders well. If you haven’t already, take a look at the other Locust posts and particularly First part of locust – how and why.
Namaste
