I have just finished my 60 day challenge and 55 classes…I could never do the half locust, just got my knees off the ground. I talked to the instructors about it and they were telling me to just give it time…..the other day, for no particular reason at all, all of a sudden I got my hips of the ground and my legs were HIGH…the teacher even gasped in class because he knew how I had been struggeling with it. I am not sure what connected all of a sudden. I try it every morning now to make sure I can still do it. It totally re-energized me and I can not wait to go to class tonight!
The moral of the story is: Hang in there y’all!!!

    Yay!

Thanks for sharing your success – some things do take time to build strength and stamina – and then as you say, just when you think it ain’t ever gonna happen – there you are doing it.

Congratulations on your challenge and breakthroughs.

Now the challenge is to integrate your practice into your everyday lifestyle!

I know this feeling!!! I LOVE it. I had a class the other day where each posture AMAZED me! I could not wait to get to the next pose to see what my body would do LOL I had depth and strength all w/ such ease it blew me away. CONGRATS!!! keep it up and yes you will keep being amazed.

Isn’t it great?! I always felt ok with my leg height in this pose and just kept going along doing the same thing. Then one day, the instructor said “struggle a little harder…” I’m not even sure what I did differently, but suddenly I felt my legs lift significantly higher. It really wasn’t even hard. I suspect that the strength gained in my hips and lower back from doing other poses had a lot to do with it. It is really cool how the poses are so integrated. At the same time, it was like my body just finally figured out what it was supposed to do.

Wow a 60 day challenge – congratulations in completing that and with your success in the pose.

Yogalifer, in your picture you look like you’re waiting for the bus to come along to take you to???

I always think you must be going somewhere exciting because you look happy!

I was very happy in that picture. I was on a four day weekend vacation in San Francisco with my best friend. I had just been through a rough year of getting divorced after 23 years of marriage, both of my sons moving away to college and losing a job. By the time Lori and I took this trip, I had recovered and was very excited about starting my second adult life at the age of 43! Now I am two years into a very good relationship, my boys are home all of the time and my oldest has a daughter (so I’m a Grandma), and I have the best job of my career–not to mention yoga!

The bench that I am sitting on is outside of Bubba Gump’s restaurant on Fisherman’s Wharf. You can’t see them, but there is a pair of oversized molded running shoes to put your feet into. The suitcase and the box of chocolates are from the Forrest Gump movie.

Your dog is adorable. What is his/her name? What breed?

I actually have two dogs like that, but with both in the picture it gets too small! Millie and Zoe, adorable Bichon Frise. Millie does Downward Dog yoga poses all the time! ha!
