I’ve been a regular at Hot Yoga (only one studio in town!) since February of this year. I love the yoga. I love the series. But after a month long vaycay overseas where there are NO hot yoga studios, I find that on return, I’ve lost my motivation!

It isn’t as though I don’t have the time. I just don’t have the motivation.

So, if anyone finds a Hot Yoga mojo kicking around and it isn’t theirs, could they please send it back to me???

Seriously, have any of you lost your motivation, then got it back? What helped you get there?

    Thanks

Ugh! I’m like you. Will those motivated yogis please respond with contagious enthusiasm?

    Hi Freia

Just wondering if you have actually gone back yet. You may have actually gone back and are not feeling the same way as before. Which is it?

At times I know that what has actually worked for me in the past is to ‘force’ myself to go to one class. By force of course I mean that I override my mind’s chatter – the stuff that’s keeping me away. And I tell you what, I feel so GREAT after the first time that I continue. The kind of thoughts that enter my head after (or even during) class are: I feel great, what was I so scared of, or what was I thinking, or I can’t believe I left it so long.

What do you think is going on?

Love the idea of the yoga mojo :cheese:

    Namaste

Since I returned from my vaycay in mid-October, I’ve been to two classes. I have noticed a difference in my practice re:flexibility but for some reason, I just don’t have the enthusiasm nor the drive that I had before I went away.

I’m planning to go tomorrow, and will commit to 4 classes in 4 days — this is how I started. Maybe I need to get back to basics…

Thanks for your quick response! And keep looking for my Yoga Mojo too, ‘kay?

OK. Y’all have motivated me. I’m off to class in a half-hour, after having gone only 4 times this whole month.

I think I may have stolen it as I only just got mine back!

Seriously, how many times have I “lost my hot yoga mojo”? (Love your description!) … well many times.

Sometimes one class got me again (as Gabrielle said – feel so great after just one that the mojo just automatically re-installs). And sometimes I needed a “goal” – not always real, but something to aim for. (Which in my case is to re-balance my eating habits and make my shorts fit properly again haha!)

Perhaps you could also combine going back for the 4 classes with a reward or something to aim for and not be concerned about the conscious reasons as to why the disappearing mojo but assume that it will rightfully return, as it usually does.

Wait … what’s that I see rushing past? I think it’s on its way back to you!

(By the way, some folks have more motivation when they “move away from pain” – ie they get their mojo by thinking about the negative consequences of NOT doing it. This works sometimes for me as I’m old and don’t want to be an incapacitated parent when I am really old! So it can be a reward … or a whip. Whatever floats your mojo!)

My mojo wanders quite often. And what I do then is follow through on my commitment to myself. Recently I’m going to 7am classes 5 days a week. Some mornings I just don’t want to go. But I have committed to at least 5 classes a week. So I get up and go. And once there, I’m happy to be there. And then very happy I went.

Goodness, maybe I’ve never had mojo.

OK, actually WENT to the studio today! Had a wonderful class. Now to follow up with a class tomorrow. I will use all the advice here to find my mojo — I KNOW I feel better after class, I KNOW I don’t want to be an old inflexible lady, I KNOW I need the commitment and to just do it. So tomorrow, 9:30 am! I’ll let you know how it goes!
    Thanks all!!!
