Hi all! Just wanted to share something I discovered that helps me a lot during class. I first noticed it worked because I was having trouble in class getting my breath to slow down, and of course my mind just started going crazy so I decided to try reciting a mantra (in my head of course!) while I breathed. In a split second I decided my mantra would be “love” so I just started reciting “love, love, love” as I inhaled and exhaled. At the same time I imagined all the love I have to give and all the love that is surrounding me at all times and it really helped to relax and calm my mind and therefore my breath.
I notice that a lot of times the intensity of the practice will get to me during class and I start feeling down, tired, and negative, but when I’m outside of class I just can’t wait to get back! Doing the mantra during periods of savasana and during the standing series has really helped me keep perspective on why I’m doing this so my mind doesn’t start rebelling!
I agree. I like “I am” as a mantra.
A few of the teachers at my studio say “let it go” during the savasana after poses like locust and camel, and I like to say it to myself after struggling in a pose. I can be really hard on myself even though I generally have a strong practice, and I think of “let it go” as acceptance of myself as I am that day.
Sometimes I smile in the mirror during a difficult pose, and I think about happiness. It’s not quite a mantra, but it helps me clear my head of all the noise!
Namaste ?
