I started doing hot yoga for my sanity not vanity. I would *like* to lose 5 lbs but I don’t really need to. I have worked out quite a bit but I was super stressed and anxious all the time. So I’m 3 weeks in and I’m really liking it so far. I’ve done yoga about 1/week for the past 10 years (maybe a couple of years off) -but it has always been super calming and slow and very mild. Hot yoga is new to me!
So here are my questions:1) I was doing yoga on the off days between my weight workouts but I’m finding that that’s not enough variety and I’m really tight and sore all the time – how can I best incorporate other workouts?
2) Can I actually lose weight doing this? Can this be good for my sanity AND my vanity?
3) Does it help with fat burning? I’m a mom of multiples and even though my weight is close to me pre-pregnancy weight, the belly/stomach is not.
Are you sore from the yoga or from your other workouts?
I think you can certainly lose weight through this – you burn a good amount of calories. Of course, the results will depend on your diet too – you could add enough calories to your diet to counteract any amount of exercise if you aren’t paying attention.
Thanks! I’m sore from both! I’ve been doing my weights long enough that I know what sore from that feels like and I’m assuming all the new sore is from my yoga.
I eat pretty clean – I don’t typically lose weight by diet/food -I’ve tracked for years and no amount of calorie cutting ever gets me to lose. Mostly I lose on activity.
There is something about this hot yoga, that though you feel like like you should be seeing results on the scale it doesnt happen. However after 45 days straight I only lost 2 lbs, I did lose 3 inches off my waist. If you feel good, just do it….and the rest will follow….:-) Good Luck!!!
Hi Deb
Are you still sore?
Where? How long does it last? Recovery might be the issue. Technique might be the issue. Lengthening your strong muscles might be.
We just need to know a bit more
Namaste
