I have been practicing Bikrim yoga ( vinyasa sequence flow mainly total of 90-100 minutes per class ) for about 3 months now. I’ve gone about 3 times week at least for the most part. I fell in love with hot yoga pretty quickly and don’t see myself quitting anytime soon. I had a scale for the first month and I saw about 5-7 pounds shed off quickly. My scale broke after and I have not weighed myself for the past 2 months or so. TODAY.. i weighed myself and have gained back all the 5-7 lbs plus few more. I understand it might even just be muscle mass but my body has not toned or slimmed down much either. My jeans fit about the same if not bit tighter! I am 215 lbs today. ( 5’6 ft) I have not changed my diet since the beginning I started yoga. I didn’t join yoga for quick weight lose but just bit frustrating to see my weight go up when all I wanted was to at least stay the same. *BIG SIGH* oh and I also became very irregular with my period. My last one was about 2 months ago. I asked my doctor and asked him if it had to do with my yoga practice but he wasn’t too knowledge about hot yoga so he just recommend that I see an obgyn. any idea if hot yoga can somehow make female not ovulate?

Any advice or input will be very much appreciated. Thanks everyone1

    Hi Jackie

Oftentimes when people don’t change shape (or even put it on) it has something to do with hydration and electrolyte issues.

Sometimes the body holds onto water when we’re lacking in electrolytes.

So take a look around the forum and work out where you’re at with your intake of water and salts. There is a ton of information around. Use the search facility or go to the main page of the forum. If you honestly can’t find it then ask and I can direct you somewhere to start. Discovery is a great teacher!

Also you mention you go 3 times per week mostly. Sometimes it is worthwhile to try to go more often for say 6-8 weeks. Give up some other commitments for that time and try to go 4-5 times. Even 6.

Of course it could have something to do with your food intake. Type and amount. Usually type has the biggest effect given modern eating habits. Have you got any feedback there?

Lastly you mention about your period. Without addressing other areas of your life, it would be hard for anyone to know. For example food and nutrition. Hydration. Exercise. Stress. Starting, stopping or changing contraceptive pill. Many things could be influential.

Have you any other clues or input?

    Namaste
    Gabrielle 🙂
