I get a really bad pain in the outsides of my hip in this pose and standing bow so much so I just can’t stand on one leg. If I try and push through, I have a hard time walking up stairs because my hip feels weak from doing this. Any thoughts?
Hi Cate
Would you be willing to tell me please what you are actually doing in Standing Head to Knee? Are you bent over with hands under your feet in first part or are you further along? The pain is obviously making this difficult for you. At what point does it start to hurt? The moment you lift the leg off the floor or as you bend over?
Namaste
Gabrielle 🙂Sorry, I should have been more descriptive. Its my standing leg and yes, its pretty much as soon as I have my other leg off the floor. I don’t know that part of my anatomy all that well so describing where it exactly is tough. Its the outside of my hip and goes slightly below my cheek but its more hip than top of leg. It is equally as painful on both sides of my body. Flexibility wise, I could in theory get my leg out straight in front of me but my standing leg prevents it because of the pain.
sometimes I can use my outer leg muscles to support me instead of my inner thigh and front of my leg (clenching my quad and lifting my knee cap up) this could cause problems as well as check on your standing leg are you straight???? you could be leaning and putting all your weight on the outside causing extra stress.
I went for a massage today and she said she could feel the spot. She said is a minor muscle that is tight (I forget what she called it). She didn’t have any good tips on stretching it. I need to find something because its really painful and getting in the way of me doing the standing single leg poses.
