How do I stretch the Iliopsoas, which might help with my backproblem? (don’t know the english name…). I can’t find a pose in the Bikram series that do that well. I also need to stretch my “butt”.
I have seen other asanas that stretch these muscles and also regular stretching.
I need to string together a good warming up and warming down routine for my skateboarding. Right now I do the Sun salutation and Bkram pick.me-up-set. But I need more for the Iliopsoas and “butt”.
Hi Stefan
I was thinking about writing long descriptions of how to do different iliopsoas stretches (and yes, we do spell it the same in English) but then I thought the best thing to do is to direct you to some pictures. So I did a little search on the internet and came up with 2 simples stretches you can incorporate: Psoas stretch 1 and then substitute 2 in your url for another stretch.
The other thing I suggest is buying yourself a Yin Yoga resource or researching some photos online for you to get some good hip opening stretches. If you can’t find what you are looking for please contact me. I do have contacts in Sweden who are qualified to teach Yin Yoga. I don’t think they are local to you but at least if you needed some explanations they may be willing to help you out in Swedish!

Gabrielle 🙂Gabrielle,
Thanks for the pics.
The first one seem to have the same effect as standing bow and fixed firm.
The other pic is a stretch I sometimes have tried. It is for example part of Svaroopa Yoga, I have a video “Yoga for your back”. And also a regular stretch.
But for some reason I always go back to Bikram Yoga…
Right now I I am reading http://bikramyoga.com/testimonials/HerniatedDiscs.htm and do the modifiations of the postures there.
As I do my yoga at home and don’t have the heat, my practice is maybe as effective as it could had been.
Which Bikram YOga pose stretches the “butt muscles?” Maybe the final twist if holding before twisting?
The yin yoga, yes please let me know more.
