With the holidays coming up, sometimes our workouts take a backstage in that we’re so busy with Xmas shopping, work, holiday entertaining, etc that we don’t have time to continue our workouts. I know for myself that even with the holidays coming up, I vow to myself to go to Bikram’s at least 4x/week because I figure that if I’m extremely busy in the daytime, that I can always go late at night to the 8:00pm class, get my workout in and de-stress!
Of course nutrition also goes hand in hand with exercising too so I vow to eat sensibly and avoid the dreaded sugars! I have to avoid sugars even more as I’m borderline diabetic (for now).
I’m just curious what everyone’s workout schedules are like during the holidays, if they manage to go regularly, how regularly or how infrequently do they go? Also how is everyone’s eating regimen?
During the holidays I do a modified half bikram workout at home:
ie: the first exercise only of each pose, and go through the full sequence.
This only takes just over half an hour approx.
You feel like you have covered all the muscle groups with this modified workout and leaves you
plenty of time to squeeze in lifes busy demands.kelv
Hi,
I am new to the hot yoga thing and have a question:
Does missing a class become a stressful event for the dedicated? I am hearing so much about this practice being so good for stress levels, body, mind and soul, but also hearing about NEEDING to go.
Can someone define all this for me?
I have always been an outdoor junkie, and do get somewhat of an ‘itch’ if I don’t hike for a week, but I never feel guilty or stressed about it.
Anyways, just a question for the super dedicated yogis 🙂

Hi looking for balance
You definitely are starting on the right foot when you can approach your new ‘love’ without feeling guilty (if you miss out on a scheduled or expected class). The issue you bring up really demonstrates a paradox that many hot yogis experience.
For so many people this yoga becomes a life-saver – injecting much needed calm and stress relief into busy lives. For many it could even be their only reprieve.
So when they miss a class there is some amount of attachment to the outcome.
I can remember ‘in the beginning’ (6-8 classes per week) I was talking to one of my instructors saying that because of a work commitment I couldn’t make it to class and how guilty I was feeling. It was my lesson to LET GO of all that and just turn up to class the next time. Guilt is not a present tense emotion. You have to be living in the past, or projecting into the future to experience it.
Learning to let go of the guilt is one of the journeys. In my experience, learning other ways to handle my stresses outside of the studio has been the key to deepening my practice during class. I don’t rely on my practice to provide stress relief (like I used to 😉 ).
I am guessing that sometimes we all forget that life is about taking advantage of each moment. Enjoy yourself even when you are NOT doing yoga 😆
