Dear Gabrielle,
Camel is one of my favourite poses! I particularly LOVE the chest opening when I have my hands at the base of my spine. Just recently I have become able to hold on to my ankles and pull on them. I am not sure though if I need to keep my hands on my back for a while longer and open up my chest a bit more, of if I can continue working on my lats by pulling on my heels… not sure what the priority is. What do you think?

Why don’t you devote first set to hands on hips and second set to hands on heels? Feel free to vary it a bit. Sometimes you can even put hands into prayer and look for your feet as one variant to open the spine.
