    Hello,

Very useful and comprehensive forum here. I’ve spent a few days reading the materials, especially hoping to find some help for my current problem. I have searched for topics covering pimples and breakouts and acne, but nothing related yet. So I’m hoping someone can give me some idea of how to handle this.

A bit of history: I’ve been doing BY on and off for two years now. But the practice wasn’t regular enough- once a week on average. Since 2 months ago, I started going on a regular basis (4-5 times/wk) and I’m really liking the progress, both physical, and mental. I feel more toned, and my mind is calmer and more focused. So quite happy there!

However, 2 weeks into the practice, the right side of my face and neck started breaking out. I’ve never had any particular problems with acne, so I just assumed this is a result of a sudden bump in my yoga practice and my body will adapt. Well, my face is now clear, but my neck is getting worse. Now I have the same breakout on the left side, too, and after yesterday class, it started in the center part (right above my larynx). So basically my whole neck is now covered in red dots, pimples, and bumps.

I’m cleaning it before and after class, and wash the area with a clearing facewash. I also clean it with an antibacterial solution 2-3 times a day. No use. It just keeps getting worse.

I really don’t know what else to try. The dot are appearing in clusters, are red bumps, and some of them have white heads. Some are itchy a tiny bit, but most are painful.

Any ideas would be highly appreciated! I really enjoy my yoga and apart from this issue, everything else is great.

    Thank you 🙂

    Hi Nikki

That’s very curious to have breakouts in discrete (separate) areas. Are those areas defined, with a hard edge? Or do the spots feather or peter out? I was also wondering a couple of other things: The effect of antibacterial washes. I thought that perhaps since it’s getting worse that maybe that’s an approach that’s not working and that something less harsh could be investigated. And I wondered about whether you had seen a professional at this stage.

As I was reading the first time I thought of the effect of detergents on towels but discounted that when you said it was only on one side and then only on your neck.

If you can think of anything else to fill in some more blanks that would be good.

    Hi Gabrielle,

Thanks for getting back to me so fast.

I’d say they were feathering. Now with the whole thing getting worse, I have more dots all over on my neck (still a lot more on the right side, just 2-3 on the left) and a lot on the center part. The right side has so many that they are now starting to peter out actually, and now they are also on the lower part of my jaw.

I’m very conscious not to touch my face, neck while practicing. Mainly because I want to minimize the distractions and to stay calm and focused. I’m using a headband to keep the sweat away from my face. I do sweat a lot, but I have a clean hand towel that I use only to clean the sweat off my eyes when it burns (they don’t burn as they used to a few weeks back) and I use a clean towel for my face in the floor series.

I haven’t seen my doctor yet. I was hoping to give it a few weeks to pass, but after Easter holidays, I’m gonna see him, since the skin condition is getting worse.

I agree that the wash isn’t working. I’m actually quite confused about this whole thing. I’ve never had any issued even remotely resembling this.

    Thanks again 🙂

Could it be a heat rash? Maybe some hydrocortisone would help?

Could it be her skin cleaning out? You know they say sometimes things get worse before they get better.

Your body may be ridding it self of toxins where it’s needed or where it can.

Thanks bunni and parkbunny for replying.

I looked up heat rash. I honestly don’t know. Some of my dots develop whiteheads and some don’t. The ones with no head are red bumps, and always in a cluster.

Yes, I’ve heard about the cleansing process. That’s what I was hoping for. It’s been 1.5 months since it started. How long does it take for the body to clear itself? I’ve been pretty diligent with my diet for the past 10 years or so. I learned the hard way that my body doesn’t like processed food. So I eat a lot of fresh wholesome food, and only whole-grains. No refined carbs, and hardly any sugar. Only natural honey, and on occasion unrefined sugar, but rarely. I drink maybe once a month or so, quite moderately.

    Thanks 🙂

    Just a quick update:

The dots have started to subside a little. I was doing some research, and as I looked at the diagram for the lymphatic nodes, I noticed all of my dots are located exactly in those areas.

Does it mean anything? I know the function of the lymphatic system, but like I mentioned, I’ve always been relatively active, and I eat naturally. The only thing I can think of is some insane amount of stress I’ve had in the last year or so. But nothing else.

Any ideas? Could it be related?

    Thanks 🙂

nothing comes to mind but just a flushing going on. Could be contact dermatitis.

    Hi Nikki

Insane stress will do it for you! Good catch. Maybe practising 1 time per week was not enough to affect your stress levels appreciably. Now your body is responding. It’s just conjecture. But since posting your update a couple of weeks back, how is the situation?

We also really haven’t looked into what the temperature actually is, what kind of detergents or other irritants could be bothering you (although I recall you take great care to minimise the contact of dirty towels etc) so if nothing has changed then there are still other avenues to explore.

    Hope all is going well.

    Namaste
    Gabrielle 🙂
