after a 90 minute class I want sugary junk food.
Usually something like devil dogs & big glass of cold milk. What’s up with that do you think?
Anyone else experience something similar?Posted by Hannahjustbreathe
Hmmm… I definitely get the cold milk craving. Normally, after a good, sweaty class, anything cold is incredibly appealing, whether it’s fruit or juice or milk or veggies.
But, I am surprised that it’s sugar you’re craving and not salt. I’ll be interesting to hear what Gabrielle has to say on this one.
In general though, if I leave a class craving anything, I first make sure I drink a full water bottle’s worth of liquids to help rehydrate. I figure most cravings are rooted in dehydration, so the sooner I replenish my fluids, the better.

I had the same problem with sugar cravings after my hot yoga session. I found that if I kept drinking lots water after class the cravings got less and less. My twin sister was the same as well and she finds just 1 glass of calcium fortified orange juice did the trick for her. It takes will power but it does get easier. Best of luck!! 🙂
It is because of the dehydration and your muscles craving the energy to rebuild. When you do intense exercise the glycogen (sugar) in our muscles and bodies gets used so….. it’s your bodies natural way of saying rest and replenish!!!!!!
have an ener c to quench thirst and replenish your sugars,,,,,, don’t have it?…… well a A LOT of water and a couple handfuls of grapes or another fast acting fruit will do the trick as well. and it WILL pass within about 20 min of refueling.
remember all during this phase too that it will take a bit for your body to recognize the fuel so grab a HANDFUL or two and WAIT (about 20 min) other wise not only will you eating more than you need to and endangering the “diet” your sugars will get too high…crash…. and the cycle will start again.I’m finding that after the yoga class, not only do I drink a ton of water, but I also crave salt I’ve actually been munching on some of those bakes honey/dijon rice crackers…not bad if I say so myself!
I thought it was weird that I was craving so much sugar in the evenings. Recently I have increased the number of day that I practice and I have been crazy about sugar. Thanks for the information.
These aren’t very good for you to say the least, but sometimes I like to have an otter pop after class %-P
Almost forgot… the Ultima Replenish that Gabrielle recommended is really great. When I take it before class I power through it and don’t feel wiped out afterward. I’m one those people that can get all red-faced and dizzy and I don’t have that problem when I drink this stuff first. I haven’t tried it before and after yet, but I’m sure it would kill that sugar craving pronto.
What about Emergen-C? There are only three favors that mention electrolytes. Others don’t mention electrolytes. Is that mean those without is not as good? Also, direction says to fix with 4-6oz of water. That is not a lot. Should I add the dosage to two pack before and two after class?
Hi Jeffrey
I think the instructions are a guide. You can add more than the advised amount. If you add another sachet you will probably just find you have expensive urine! :cheese: I hope that doesn’t need an explanation.
I add more water than the advised amount for the Ultima product because the stevia aftertaste bothers me if it is too concentrated.

Gabrielle 🙂Emergen-C now contains sucralose. FYI. Sucralose causes “gastrointestinal issues” (i.e. the runs) in many people (me included!) I know this post is from 2009 which is about when Emergen-C started using sucralose; and not coincidentally when I stopped using Emergen-C. It really is awful stuff. You can get vitamin C elsewhere.
As for the sugar craving– nothing a large coke Slurpee won’t take care of. ;o)
Hi Betty
You’re right. Some folk have a reaction to that product. And again, as you say, there are better places to get your Vitamin C. Nature is a very good place! 🙂
If you were trying to superload yourself with Vit C for immune reasons (any kind of condition for which you thought you might need grams of the stuff) what product would you be choosing if you deemed that some berries or oranges were not enough? I am interested to hear anyone’s suggestions.
