    Hi there,

I was wondering if you have any recommendations for home Yoga practice?

I am travelling for a week and would like to take my practice with me.

    Hi Eve

It is strange but there appears to be no DVD of the Bikram Yoga class in circulation. I remember once that someone was offering a subscription to online classes, but a brief search and I came up empty, sorry. You may be able to get your hands on an audio class.

When it comes to home practice (or hotel or whatever) the first thing to decide is whether you can heat the room!
If you can’t then that is no real problem. You could make sure that windows are closed and air conditioners are off (or indeed the heaters on high). Your movements will create heat, maybe not as high. 😉

The next important thing to decide is if you will do the whole series, a one set series, or a small selection of poses. Your selection should include Pranayama, Half Moon (all 4 sides) and then really it is up to you. I like to include Eagle, some balance poses, then a few floor poses. Incorporate more backbends than forward bends. Final Twist is a must!

    Namaste
    Gabrielle 🙂

    Thanks Gabrielle,

Well it is summer on my side of the world so turning air conditioning off and closing the windows
    will definately do it!

I like your suggestion and see if I can work out a little routine myself this week.

It’s not a DVD but I purchased the 2 CD set of Bikram teaching a class. For travelling, I’ve got it on my cell phone/mp3 player.

    Hope this helps.

I would reccommend a DVD from the Yoga Challange Series from Tony Sanchez. I think there are several levels you can choose from. I’ve seen Yoga Challange I, and although it wasn’t all 26 poses, it was a good workout.

I know that Gabrielle’s MasterClass has just been released (wink wink), but just to add to the diversity in addition to Bikram I do Jimmy Barkan’s DVD. Jimmy was a student of Bikram’s and he branched off on his own and does a series very similar to Bikram. You have to go to his site http://www.thebarkanmethod.com to order the DVD. I like that he does a 1hr version when time is limited.

I’ve already ordered Gabrielle’s MasterClass, and it seems to have much more detail than Jimmy’s. But if your only option is a home practice, I say the more diversity the better. Just to hear a different voice can help.

Hi Barb – I agree with hearing the the different voice!

We once practiced for about 5 months to the same CD (as a favor, a teacher let us tape the class – this was back in 2000). Both Gabrielle and I can regularly recite portions of it word for word – to this day!

We also use some of Baron Baptiste’s CDs for variety in practice. (Another ex-teacher of Bikram who branched off …)

(FWIW, Gabrielle’s DVDs have been designed to allow a variety in class routines – same voice, but you can get familiar poses in various less-familiar sequences to help with variety.)

    Hi guys,

Financial crisis hit hard on me :long: and I won’t be able to afford the classes any longer.
As a matter of fact I won’t be able to afford DVDs either. Does anyone know of a CD (cheaper than DVD) or free download of the whole class?
I will be doing yoga at home, however as you might all know it is much harder without anyone guiding you through poses and finding concentration, so as soon as this crisis is over and I manage to put $$ together I’ll join again.
I’ll appreciate your comments and advise

Hmmm Lubi – I think you might be pushing your luck asking for a free download on a commercial website.

However, I’ll ask Gabrielle when she returns from traveling later today as we are in the process of releasing an mp3 (it will not be free, but cheaper for sure than a DVD).

You CAN get a free pose timings guide, which will help you at home, here:

robbss07 – yes and I noticed my post above is now outdated since we have released our own MP3 of a 90-min class which is also only a few bucks!

    Hi Fraseram,

My first post! Yah. I know this thread is old so hopefully you are still an active member. Due to expense of driving almost an hour (two hours if you include the return trip) to attend class along with studio membership, I have recently created a home studio and am loving it. Now, instead of a taking four hours out of my day, a few times a week to go to hot yoga, I can spend 1.5 hours several times a week!

After growing tired of listening to the Bikram CD every day I started searching for new recordings – which landed me here. I have purchased the audio download from HotYogaDoctor.com and am waiting to receive the DVDs in the post. I also purchased the new iPhone App which unfortunately is the same recording as the audio downloads. (Don’t get me wrong the App is awesome, I was just hoping for another/different audio recording). My third recording I discovered from one of your posts – the 1.5hr hot yoga audio recording from YogaDownload.com – thank you for that suggestion.

Onto the reason for posting. I am wondering if your offer to share your recording is still available? I would love to have another recording to add to my studio collection.

PS Robert and Gabrielle – I fully intend of purchasing all your recordings in the future – I just need to pace myself with my spending!
