I wanna share a mat towel review here since I find yogitoes very slippery. I know lots of people wet them before class but that doesn’t make it any less slippery for me.

Lately I found a low price but GREAT mat towel on ebay, the material of this towel is a bit rougher than yogitoes but for me that is what made it grip so well. The rougher fabric didn’t bother me at all.

In the past I tried another towel, I don’t know the brand, but it was so rough it gave me rug burn. This didn’t do that. The brand name of the towel is asian yoga, you guys can take it look.

    Hi Nicky

Actually I don’t have a problem with the yogitoes – on the top. I find that it if I happen to fold the towel over my heels for rabbit pose then my hands slip off the rubber knobs. So consequently I don’t ‘fold’ even if it’s very sweaty.

However, I was visiting a public studio and the teacher there requested (aka demanded) that I fold the towel over my heels even though I didn’t need to… I complied knowing I could handle it, but it still made me realise that a less experienced hot yogi might get into quite a lot of trouble and potentially seriously hurt themselves.

I am awaiting a new towel (similar to the yogitoes, but a different brand) in the mail. I plan to give you a review of it before too long!

My gripe with Yogitoes is that it can’t handle the amount of sweat that I sweat out in a Bikram class. However, I do find it useful to take when I travel. I use a Yogitoes towel along with Gabrielle’s dialog mp3.

I personally love the Breathe mat. I now own three of them.

What makes the breath mat better than the yogiotes? I was looking into a towel and had it narrowed to the yogitoes or the Yogiearth. Is the Breath easily washable?

I really lie my Manduka eQua mat towel – it does wonders for making me feel more secure in triangle pose. I know ideally, I’d be able to hold the pose on ice, but the fear of slipping unexpectedly (particularly with my bad knees) used to prevent me from trying to sink down as far as I could. And that extra sense of security helped me focus on the pose instead of contemplating what would happen if my foot slid out…

And I guess they make a hot yoga specific version of this towel if you need to absorb more sweat, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Interesting – we do triangle across our mats so our feet are never on the mat during trianle -just the carpet -which can be quite slippery IMHO.

I’ve seen pictures of that but never experienced it. We turn to the left side of the studio for that whole series of postures so you are still standing with your feet on your mat. We don’t have carpet in my studio either, so it would be extremely slippery on the vinyl/gym type flooring.

Hi. I am writing from yogitoes and wanted to offer some information in regards to the comments in this thread…

The Yogiearth towel that is mentioned, along other towels that are backed with nubs, are illegal products. yogitoes has worked very hard and invested a lot of money and time to develop a product (SKIDLESS®) that the yoga community has embraced. These products are protected with patents and registered trademarks. The Yogiearth towel, and others like it, are being produced in China by a company that is knowingly infringing on our US patents (so much for the yogic concepts of Satya and Asteya). Shipping to and selling this merchandise within the US is illegal.

Here are a few main differences between our product and the ones produced in China:
    – We use dyes that are AZO, lead and heavy metal free – in the fabric and packaging.
    – Factories we work with, along with their sub-contactors, meet Global compliant standards in regard to safety, working conditions, fair wages, etc.
    – We use recycled paper in our packaging.
    – Sometimes PVC is used instead of silicone nubs. Silicone is eco-friendly, PVC is not.
    – We donate a percentage of sales to charity.

As a business we try our best to operate with integrity – practicing yoga on and off the mat – running our business as close as we can to yogic principles.

Regarding slipping on your SKIDLESS®, you may find a tip sheet on our Facebook page in the “Notes” section.

    Shanti.

    Thanks alex_y

Just to be clear – can you provide links to your patents etc?

I see that the YogiEarth is for sale on Amazon and claims to have patents pending … I would not like this forum to be publishing misleading information 😉

I’m not entirely clear how other products that have rubber knobs as backing would infringe your patent, but clearly we need to know more!

    Thanks

    Robert

    Hi Robert,

I appreciate your reply and your questions.

Here are our patent numbers, they are public documents (http://www.uspto.gov/). I can also send pdf’s to you via email if you like.

    #6,961,969
    #7,069,607
    #7,137,157

What is specifically patented is the textile we developed, this is why any product of this sort cannot legally be produced and/or sold within the US and other countries we hold patents in. Additionally, the word “SKIDLESS®” is a registered trademark of the product yogitoes produces. Yogiearth is also infringing on this trademark.

Regarding Yogiearth, our patent lawyers are currently in contact with them.

    Shanti,
    Alex

That’s perfect Alex – I did run a search yesterday at USPTO but couldn’t find you!

Now it’s nice and clear for anyone else landing on this thread – good luck with protecting your patents (not for the faint-hearted!).

Thank you again for going deeper into this conversation with us. Yes, protecting patents is a lot of work. One of things that actually helps us keep our patents is to show that we are actively trying to protect them.

    Continued success on your forum!

    Om Shanti.
