I went to my 2nd class tonight…have been experiencing some fairly bad sinus allergies the past few days. It was ok yesterday for class #1, but I woke up this AM with hardly a voice at all…got better during the day, adn during class felt good (with the exception of sniffling on the down poses!)..but now, I’m SO stuffed up. My ears hurt, and I can definitely feel it.

Would the yoga be exacerbating these sinus-related allergies, or am I just being paranoid? I’m going to keep going, but I would prefer not to feel so bad a few hours after class!

    Hi there,

Again, I’m not an expert, but I would be surprised if the yoga is actually exacerbating the problem. It should have a ‘cleansing effect’ (flushing stuff out), if anything.

I can get quite congested and I have found that using a saline nasal spray before class really helps (my product says ‘sea water spray’). It flushes out the sinuses quite effectively which relieves the pressure, opening up the nasal passages for further cleansing during class.

Perhaps that is something to try? If you have an infection already… well that’s a different story.

I can also vouch for the saline nasal sprays, I have sensitive sinuses as well and find that using the spray before class really helps to open my airways and flush everything out.
