    Hi there,

This is wierd, but I thought I’d asked:

One of the posses that I have most difficulty with is Rabbit. I just don’t seem to get it: I can’t bring my heels together, my forhead slides to the front and I keep compressing my neck everytime I try it. So, I spend most time practicing other posses that I seem to get better.

Anyhow, the wierd thing is that whenever I do attempt to do it, next day I have a sore throat.

Has anyone experience something like this? it is weird but I thought I’d asked… it seems to me that these two things are related…

    Hi Liliana

I can guarantee you’re doing something wrong that’s actually going to take a tiny adjustment to make this a very satisfying pose for you.

Tell me, when you go into Rabbit are you worried that you’re going to get this problem recurring? If you are, then I can also guarantee that the fear is creating tensions in your body in places that need to be let go of…

Sounds convoluted HOWEVER … in Rabbit it’s extremely odd but the very things that you think are going to save you from creating the problems are the very things that are going to CAUSE the problems.

    Tell me what’s going on…

And we’ll get you fixed in no time

PS The sore throat is a very interesting side effect!

    Oh Liliana

Can you please tell me if it’s a sore throat or if you have sore throat muscles. I was assuming the former when I read your words! It would be great to clear that up.

    Hi Gabrielle,

I am sorry it has taken me so long to reply. Re: sore throat, I ended up having a throat swab and found out I had strep-throat :red:. I had antibiotics for a while and I am feeling well now.

Re: rabbit, I don’t think I was worried about getting the sore throat when entering the pose. I think it was just a coincindence.

I did review carefully on my HYMC the section on common problems and how to fix them AND: I realized that because I have a very flexible C spine (and a very flexible L spine with a terribly stiff T-spine:-S), I should be placing my head a little bir away from my knees. I’ve been doing that for the last week or so, and I finally feel the work on my lower back instead of pressure on my head and neck.

Is there anything I need to do here? I can’t seem to be able to bring my heels together, but I am not sure how significant that is.. It has become a pose I look forward to, specially since it comes right after Camel.

    Let me know please 🙂

As always, I am very thankful for your help and direction.

    LOVE YA!

    Lil

    Hi Liliana

Phew! That’s great you’re rid of the sore throat AND you’ve got Rabbit sorted! Woo hoo.

Re putting your heels together. That will come with time. You may just be developing the length in your muscles to be able to work into that ideal geometry. It’s a great convincer that poses change with your changing body. Keep testing the waters. Work on that spinal length and every so often try to rotate the lower legs to bring those heels together. Main thing is to keep the weight in the right place. Oh, now that you ‘get’ it, see if pushing shins into the ground makes a difference.

Hello! I am unsure how to post a new forum but I am experiencing the same thing.
I have been to just TWO hot yoga classes, after the first one, i noticed the muscles in my throat or front part of my neck were sore. After the second class, I now feel like my throat may be swollen, its a little tougher to swallow and its sore. I cant help but to think this may have tied into Hot Yoga somehow. Also My hands after class feel a little swollen, same with my feet. Why is this?

    Hi Chelsea

A sore throat doesn’t have to be connected with your yoga. It could be a coincidence.

Swollen hands and feet could be related to a number of things: Need for electrolytes, need for water, possibly related to your new level of activity. Were you active before you started yoga or more sedentary?

I have gotten this same thing a couple of times too. I feel like the glands in my throat are kind of swollen, maybe due to the compression when trying to lay my neck flat on the floor during wind-removing pose? I thought it was just coincidence the first time, but it has happened again recently.

Well, I used to get bad throat infections when I was a teen. The only relation I see between the throat infection I recently had with rabbit pose, is that the compression in the throat during the pose actually squeezed out whatever bug I had been hosting in my tonsils. Yikes! :red::question:

This is very interesting subject because it was my day 2 with hot yoga today and I have pretty bad sore throat too! I went into Bikram before for for a bit but I’ve not experienced the same thing back then. This class is a hot yoga, i.e. it’s pretty active vinyasa at ~95F temp that last for 60 mins. Similar to Lilitamz, I used to have chronical tonsilitis as a teen but not recently (I’m 30 yo now). So ‘squeezing out that bug’ sounds very close to how I feel about this whole thing.. I hope it’s a good thing, certainly but this is super odd.. Any idea why this might be happening and how to prevent it in the future?

P.S. Before starting hot yoga, I’ve been exercising regularly; mostly cardio and strength trainings.
