Woo Hoo! Tuesday I finished my 60 day challenge. I decided to take Wednesday off. When I went this morning boy did I feel stronger and slimmer. Do you know why this might be?
Aloha,
NatashaCongrats! 😉 Wow that is an achievement. Maybe taking a day off allowed your body to recoup? Adequate rest is after all the second most important ingredient to reaping the full benefits of exercise?
I have a 2c-worth on this one too!
I love the work of a guy called Tony Schwartz (he wrote a book called The Power of Full Engagement) who has done an amazing study of peak performance and productivity as well as studying elite athletes. He is fanatical about training for recovery – in fact he recommends we literally make daily rituals for recovery (for elite athletes and the rest of us mere mortals).
So it struck me that your day off may have triggered the body’s recovery system (which in this case would also have helped integrate the previous 60 days) – and hence stepped you up to another level.
This is one reason that I’m not a fan of a deliberate 60-days straight, because for some people, there is literally not enough time for recovery and assimilation … even Bikram, who is known as a tough task-master, says take one day a week off!
And WELL DONE NATASHA! 🙂
Thanks a lot. I think I am going to try the six days a week, and see how that goes. I am really glad that I found Bikram Yoga, as well as this site.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
NatashaWow, Natasha, impressive – impressive!
Did you find you had to put a lot of your life on hold, so to speak, to attend yoga every day?
I’ve only made 25 days in a row so far. I plan on another 30-day challenge in January.
Tell me, did you start out with a 60-day target or did it just evolve? 60 days seems daunting, but maybe it could be snuck up upon….
Bonmar…
My original goal was 30 days, But when I reached that goal I decided to keep on going. I didn’t want to start all over again. I am really fortunate that where I live there are early classes that I can attend before work. On the days when I couldn’t drag my bottom out of bed I would go to an evening class. The only thing that I found challenging was making sure I had an empty stomach before the afternoon classes.
Great job on your almost reaching your goal! I think after the new year I too will start a new goal.
Have a great day!
