What do you do about sweat running into the eyes? The sweat really stings my eyes – it’s really painful, or am I just a wuss? – and also I cannot see what I am doing. Have tried a headband, very good in head upright poses until I get really hot and then it’s too wet to work anyway. And any time the head is downwards, sweat runs from my chin and cheeks into the eyes. Wiping sweat away with a hand towel/wristbands (but then they get soaked too) between poses is how I cope at present – but it distracts from and spoils the rest poses in between. I am not a sweaty person in “real” life, but in Bikram class it’s like turning a tap on, especially my head and face. Anyone got any ideas?

    Hi Frances

There are lots of good tips and ideas in Wiping the sweat.

I have noticed that new students or yogis with an infrequent practice tend to report more issue with sweat that stings the eyes. Once you have a regular frequent practice the sweat no longer stings. Sometimes the stinging comes back if you have had a break in practice. I have never consciously tried reducing my salt intake, but would love to know if that helps you (or anyone)…

I notice whenever I have any kind of anything on my face like moisturizer, make up, etc. my eyes sting. I have tried many avenues and find a thin headband much like an elastic hair pony band with four bobby pins (two at the temples and two towards the back) help keep it on. This keeps my hair out of the eyes. I think the salt idea is interesting as well. 😉
