Hi there, am wondering if anyone could shed some light? I have been practicing for 2 months now, on day 20 of my second 30 day challenge. For about over 5 days now the tip of my right thumb and some of my forearm is numb. I haven’t lost feeling or anything it just feels weird. It gets a bit worse in class then fades but it has not exactly returned to normal. Any idea? Thanks!

    Hi Rosalyn

It sounds as though you have something going on with your median nerve (in your arm). Sometimes these issues happen as a result of incorrect technique or poor posture. It could be something that was ‘brewing’ long before yoga. It would be impossible to say at this stage.

It is possible that you could benefit from reviewing the video at the very bottom of the page!

The video may resonate for you with respect to your practice and your posture. It may not. It could be pose technique that we need to look at. The kind of symptoms you are talking about could indicate a few things. Perhaps it is an issue with ‘carpal tunnel’ syndrome or something that has to do with lack of best technique with shoulder use or incorrect posture.

Let me know what occurs to you as a result of the above and we can move forward

    Hi Gabrielle,

Thanks for your reply. I have watched the video, thanks for that too! My thumb and forearm are fine today actually. After a week it’s back to normal! I think it had something to do with the median nerve as well. I don’t think I have any carpal tunnel issues. So amazing how yoga just straightens everything out. 🙂

Aaaah, that’s a relief! Thanks for letting me know, RosalynN! It must have been your shoulders. Keep them in optimal position in class and out …
