Dear Gabrielle and fellow forum members, I have had a very tight adductor muscle in my inner right thigh for a few months now. I have pain and am restricted especially in the separate leg intense stretch. I have been careful and pull back when I feel pain there. My question is; any advice out there about how much time that muscle needs to heal? Seems like it is taking a very long time.
Hmm. Depending on how exactly you injured the muscle, I would say it should be at least improving by now. Maybe go see a physio? if there is some soft tissue damage they will be able to recommend what to avoid!
Hi Michael,
I do agree with Juliette it could take some professional attention. Have you by any chance tried the technique laid out in Opening Up Your Hamstrings In Hot Yoga? It’s very possible that you have your legs too widely positioned and it’s causing strain. Check out the post and see if that resonates for you.
And the other thing, how’s that issue with the arthritis going? 😉
Namaste
Gabrielle 🙂Thank you ettielou and Gabrielle for your advice. Even when I do the separate leg intense stretch with my legs closer together, there is still tightness and pain in the adductor muscle of my right leg. I am not sure how I injured it; I could have been forcing it a few months ago. For the last two years or so I regularly touch my forehead to the floor and I might have been pushing too hard when it wasn’t going as easily as I was accustomed to. Although I can’t recall feeling any intense pain that would have let me know I had gone too far. In any case it is not getting better so I will go ahead and have a physiotherapist have a look at it.
As to your question about the arthritis Gabrielle, the salazopyrine (anti-inflammatory) has done it’s work and I have almost no pain at all in my joints for a number of months now. We are slowly reducing the dosage and I hope to be able to stop altogether in the future. I continue to do my hot yoga 2-3 times a week.
I recently have difficulty doing this pose. My lower right leg (the back side) feels very tight and it hurts. Left leg is fine. Does anyone knows why? I never have the tightness feeling before. Even though I still can’t grab my heel from the outside, I am able to hold the outside of the feet. I don’t have injury.
