HI ,
I have been practicing Bikram yoga for last 1 month. I am also trying to conceive and have been reading a lot of posts around associated Bikram yoga and child birth. I am not sure if i can continue Bikram Yoga while i am trying to conceive or should i stop it. my partner and i love Bikram yoga but our first preference is a healthy baby. I am 29 years old and just want to have a very clear opinion.
Thanks
Hi Sarya
Welcome! The question to ask any woman is: How do you feel about it? I conceived at a time when I was practising 5+ times per week. (I was very careful not to say I conceived while I was doing Bikram yoga )
It is entirely your choice. I think that because I did yoga throughout my entire pregnancy I was able to have an incredibly enjoyable time. I modified several of the poses from month 4 or so, because I wanted to participate in the hot classes.
Please go and look through this category of threads for a lot of things that have been covered for people who have asked similar questions.
If you’re healthy and there’s no big risk factor and you eat well, hydrate well and take sea salt and vitamins such as folate etc that are recommended for pregnancy then there’s every reason to continue. There could be issues IF the temperatures in the studio are abnormally and consistently high. Temperatures of around body temp are absolutely fine. Let me know about that aspect and we can take it from there.

Gabrielle 🙂HI. I’ve been doing Bikram for about 8 months and have had this discussion with a number of my instructors. A couple of the instructors are certified in the Bikram pregnancy series and work one-on-one with pregnant students to modify the poses and ensure the mother and child’s safety during class. I suggest that you find a studio with an instructor who is certified in a pregnancy series. Ultimately, Gabrielle is right. Continuing Bikram while trying to conceive or while pregnant depends on your personal comfort and you should consult with your doctor. That having been said, every instructor with whom I have spoken recommends Bikram throughout the entire pregnancy.
Good luck!
Andi
