Hi all,
I LOVE to read – in a way I think Reading was my first “yoga” 😆
Just as my “food choices” are evolving (for the better! LOL) as I continue my yoga practice, my book choices are evolving as well… lately I’ve taken an interest in books that are inspirational, motivational, spiritual, philosophical, etc.
What have you read that you would recommend?
A few of my fav’s so far (in no particular order):
Wayne Dyer – There Is A Spiritual Solution To Every Problem
– The Power of Intention
– Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life: Living The Wisdom of the TaoRam Dass – The Only Dance There Is
Dr. Bruce Wilkinson – The Prayer of Jabez
Eckhart Tolle – The Power of Now
Rhonda Byrne – The Secret
Roland Merullo – Golfing With God: A Novel of Heaven and Earth
The Dhammapada (lots of versions out there)
The Bhagavad Gita (again, lots of versions to choose from)
Deepak Chopra – Why Is God Laughing?: The Path To Joy and Spiritual Optimism
Hi Nynn,
Some interesting titles there. Whilst I’m not really the spiritual type 🙂 I do read quite a bit. The following are what I can recommend:
Zen Mind Beginner’s Mind by Shunryu Suzuki
The Three Pillars of Zen by Philip KapleauYoga: The Spirit and practice of Moving into Stillness by Erich Schiffmann
The Five Things we cannot Change and the Happiness we find by Embracing them by David RichoThe key Muscles of Hatha yoga by Ray Long (Part of a series called Scientific Keys) – useful for someone who has no background in anatomy.
Now if you were to ask me about novels – that would be a completely different story!! 🙂
How Yoga Works by Geshe Michael Roach and Christie McNally
Meditations from the Mat by Rolf Gats and Katrina Kenison
The Divided Mind by Dr. John Sarno
Take Care,
LeeThat is so funny that I came across this because I was just reading Ilysium’s post about her conflict with her yoga instructor and I wanted to tell her about this book, but then I saw that the post was almost a year old and figured I’d skip it.
I experienced an intense transformational process just before starting Bikram last September when I discovered that I have anxious attachment disorder and after my practice let loose some very interesting and left field emotions I decided that some counseling to help me through the process of this discovery was in order, which in itself has been very stressful and anxiety inducing. Over the last three or four months my problem has evolved into deep seated anger/victim issues so I went on a quest to find a book about it since my counselor is retiring in March and honestly, I know I can do this on my own. Anyway, this is what I found:
“Healing Rage: Women Making Inner Peace Possible” by Ruth King
I am going to turn 41 on Monday and my life and emotions have never made sense until now. I am beyond grateful to this woman for writing this book. It is proving to be a lifesaver. I thought it could benefit Ilysium because of her child-like reactions to this ‘bully’ and the way she would call her names like, “the spawn of satan” and “cretan”. Anyway, if she’s still on, maybe it will help her, too.
I don’t have a lot of time to read because I work full time and am a student as well, so that’s all I’ve got for books. However, there’s a video documentary out that is also wonderful and potentially life changing:
“The Living Matrix: A Film On The New Science Of Healing”
Hope you all are well and happy 🙂
MicheleHi! Hmmm some really great reads out there.
Here are my current favs:
The Life of Milarepa by Lobsang P. Lhalunpa
Free From Lies: Discovering Your True Needs by Alice Miller, MD
12 Steps to Raw Foods by Victoria Boutenko
The Yoga of Vibration and Divine Pulsation by Jaideva Singh
The Heart of Meditation: Pathways to a Deeper Experience by Swami Durgananda
Enjoy!
