I’m new to hot yoga- went to my 5th class today. I love it.
At the 3rd class, I splurged and bought a Yogitoes towel because the bath towel I was using on my mat was really cumbersome.
Nearly everyone else in the class has a Yogitoes towel but nobody else seems to be having the problems that I have with it staying put on my mat.
What’s the deal? Is it my mat? I have a 100% rubber eco mat so maybe it’s not sticky enough? Thanks in advance for your help.
strange? mine does stay put too …… I would assume it is your mat. Some are meant for yoga and some for pilates… check it out and ask the clerks where you got it from.
Before I got a Breathe mat as a gift I noticed my towel seemed to look a lot like I felt. Some days it was nice and smooth, others all twisted and rumbled. I think it was from unconsciously shifting the feet around. It annoyed me at first but later I found it rather amusing and would use it as a clue to pay attention and be still.

Thank you both! I tried another mat and it did help. Although I must say, Lee, you’re absolutely right about the towel being a reflection of what’s going on for me that day.
The Nike mats are perfect for home practice withour heat.
I read somewhere that with time you will create inner heat, so the outer heat gets less important.
There are a lot of different types of material for yoga mats. For hot yoga, the stickier, the better. Some eco-friendly mats like TPE are not sticky enough for hot yoga unfortunately.

Put a moist towel over the eco-friendly mat and it will be sticky. Studios are so warm the towel will get moist from the sweat…Yeah, it seems there’s just so simple solution to this problem, other than a towel. =)
