in reply to: Lost my Hot Yoga Mojo. — has anyone seen it? #5725
My mojo wanders quite often. And what I do then is follow through on my commitment to myself. Recently I’m going to 7am classes 5 days a week. Some mornings I just don’t want to go. But I have committed to at least 5 classes a week. So I get up and go. And once there, I’m happy to be there. And then very happy I went.
Goodness, maybe I’ve never had mojo.
in reply to: Teacher Training in Philadelphia #5712Well, one of the reasons I love my studio is that my teacher doesn’t do much of the current “dialogue”. Personally I’d love to learn how to make this my own without it. He also includes music and focuses heavly on the breath throughout.
To each her own.
in reply to: The Bent Leg Controversy #5711Funny thing is that my studio also encourages bent leg. Don’t know if this is in part about when some where trained. But some teachers feel really, really, really, really strongly about this.
in reply to: Feet Together for Savasana? #5645Hmmmm. I will pay more attention to this one. I know I am more comfortable with my feet slightly apart, less comfortable with the heels touching.
in reply to: The teacher AND my practice #5644Oh my.
Well reality is, I’m never anywhere for a longer than a week, no less 30 days unless it’s my home studio. In the end I’d like to honor my practice and honor myself. That is the question I’d love to discuss with others who have had a similar experiences. And how they coped with it.
As to how I feel when I ‘give in’? On the things listed above, not great. On the other things, no sweat. Actually, I cannot even comprehend the breathing one. It’s inhale, then sit up and dive forward, and then breath out twice while bouncing.
I like your use of the word meditation. For me this is very much about moving meditation and being in my body in the moment, attentive to breathing and form are what’s important. In some instances, like the above, it becomes more difficult. But in the end I come to it for the meditation.
Thanks.

As Gabrielle alludes, I have been doing 5 classes a week for 3 months and still find days when it exhausts me. Not sure if there is a common denominator about stress, or pre-menstrual or anything else consistent. It’s not most of the time but it still is from time to time.
Springin reply to: Proper situp form #55485) it FEELS INFINITELY BETTER and EMPOWERING to do it in the way I describe above. You will feel STRONGER and you will feel your BACK OPEN UP.
6) a Sit-Up executed in the above way is great practice for Paschimottanasana (Intense Stretch). The way I teach it is the way I was originally taught it many years ago. I don’t know why it is taught differently now. I just do what makes logical and practical sense. Too many students do Sit-Ups dangerously and I don’t want them to to do it around me! Call me selfish 😆
Namaste
Gabrielle 🙂
OK — so this was the last unlock of this morning’s class. And I can’t believe how much better I felt with the straight back. A world of a difference!!!!in reply to: Grabbing my hands behind my back? #5547Today’s other breakthrough was this position. It’s amazing how seemingly, to me anyway, simple adjustments can make a world of difference. In this one the adjustments I made were pushing the front knee down and pushing into the ground with the flat foot. Wow what a difference. I think I saw me in the mirror :D.
Thanks again.
in reply to: Problems deepening into this pose. #5546So this was one of my least favorite positions and I knew it was about needing a technique unlook. After reading the MasterClass last night and this forum I realized the two big issues were (1) looking at my foot in Janushirasana and (2) rounding down in Paschimottanasana. Hmmmmm. Rounding when I shouldn’t and not rounding enough. Funny how that is. Ok the third issue was not really pulling on my foot.
Well this morning I corrected both of those issues and I think I’m gonna love this position!!! The opening with both of them and the comfort was so demonstrably different. Amazingly better.
Thanks so much.
in reply to: No roon for sexism in yoga….. #5524the sports bra keeps the girls in place, my girls anyway. The top is so small I barely know I’m wearing it. So I’m good, thanks.
in reply to: I am as confused as I can ever get….. #5500I think that as human beings it is very hard of us not to go to a “my truth is better than your truth” place. In my opinion it is that underlying and human inclination which leads to strife. And as human our truths can be religious, political, physical, ethnic, racial, etc. Take away religion and humans will still in my opinion find ways to be divisive. It’s the underlying bent towards duality and “Truth” which is in my opinion much more the issue.
in reply to: Bikram for weight loss – any stories for me?! #5412Well I started to lose weight before my 5x/week bikram practice went into full swing. A big part of it was about eating healthier. Being aware of portion sizes. Eating breakfast. Taking the alcohol intake way, way down. And the like. And counting or more importantly balancing my calories was important, although I’m much less concerned with counting the calories I’ve burned. But the huge body differences have come in the last 5 weeks with bikram. Where people SEE the difference. The body is rearranging. Stronger. It’s been a bit of everything which has me 30 pounds lighter and now a size 6 dress AND pants.
in reply to: Hot Yoga v Bikram Yoga #5411Interesting discussion. It means that hot yoga can really be anything as long as there is heat, which is much like other yoga styles with no set series. As an outsider, meaning I haven’t been certified, the “politics” behind all of this is fascinating. My current studio does use the bikram banner but his style is very meditative, not at all drill sargeanty, and he does have silent classes. First time I went to a different studio I was majorly surprised by the differences. But have found that I can maintain the meditative practice, which is important to me.
I think I’m a very lucky gal.
in reply to: YogaBody supplement really works #5373Just started the YogaBody and the stretches, married with the Master Class and practicing 5x/week. Don’t know what is responsible but I’m noticing my butt getting closer to the floor in fixed firm and my hips opening up a great deal. Slow but steady and one day at a time. But I think I’m a bit obsessed at this time. It’s not a bad obsession though.
in reply to: First part of locust: how and why… #5372OK — so I tried this yesterday. One of the things I noticed is that when my face goes down to the mat my body lifts up a bit and I lose the full arm connection to the ground I can make in the one legged lifts. The Master Class is helpful for much of this pose but I’m still a bit challenged.
Off to class to try again. One day at a time.
in reply to: First part of locust: how and why… #5363Thanks Gabrielle. I will take a try at that tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
in reply to: First part of locust: how and why… #5353This pose has been a challenge for me as well. I know I’m not doing it well. The confirmation that the bigger bust just may make the shoulders to ground impossible is helpful. I will try pressing the heart to the mat and see how that works. My other challenge is getting my arms flat. This position is still very uncomfortable for them. I’ve tried not putting them so close together, but some teachers really don’t like to see that.
