in reply to: Entering Knee Pain #6143
I’m going to try tonight…we shall see!
in reply to: Motivational tips #6135There’s an app for that (I know, I sound like the commercial!) on iTunes called iYogaQuote. Perhaps, Blackberry has the same thing.
in reply to: Entering Knee Pain #6134First the answers the your questions, Gabrielle:
1. It doesn’t hurt except when I’m practicing so I haven’t gone in to get it looked at.
2. NoWell, I did some “experimenting” today with good results. I figured out if I twist my femur in my hip joint just a bit to the outside that it doesn’t hurt! I don’t know what this does to change things…but, I’m very happy that it does!
in reply to: Bikram Yoga Retreats #6112I just talked to someone that is going to one in MA taught by Rajashree. It might be worth checking out!
in reply to: Entering Knee Pain #6111Okay, so I tried keeping my hands on my hips both with legs parallel and knees/feet in a “V”. In both positions I still was in pain and ended up coming out early and not even attempting the second. 🙁 Should I just stay in the pose and work through the pain?
in reply to: Entering Knee Pain #6108My hands are on my feet. So, I’ll try that tomorrow and see what happens!
in reply to: Entering Knee Pain #6106Thanks for your reply, Gabrielle. I’m so sorry it’s taken me quite a long time to get back here….life got a wee bit challenging/crazy (depending on how you look at it!) for me for awhile!
Anyways, the night after I posted this I spoke my hot yoga studio owner (who is wonderful!) about this and she suggested that I widen my knees a bit and that seemed to solve the problem. However, after not practicing for three weeks I am back and again having problems with this knee despite widening my “stance”. I’m thinking that possibly I’m working through an old injury. Could that be possible? The pain has moved to below the knee cap and on the right side of the knee cap (right knee)
To answer your questions, the answer is yes to both. Also, it hurts as I’m going back (so the area above the floor) and not when I’m exiting the pose. It’s not like a tugging sensation, it is definitely painful!
Thanks again, it’s wonderful to have the resource!
in reply to: What are the benefits of a 30-day challenge #6105Good luck to you, Nynn!
I think one of the simplest things that I’ve learned doing hot yoga is that it is better not to have any expectations of myself other than I will practice XX times per week. When I go in with no expectations I’ve never been anything less than pleased with changes, progress or “aha” moments that I’ve had. So, I guess what I’m saying to you is…just do it! Distractions? Bring them on…that’s even more challenging!
Keep us posted…we all will be cheering you on!
in reply to: Hair Damage #5881Another thought, Micherie, do you wear your hair up in hairbands during practice? This can sometimes cause damage to the hair (breakage) if used frequently.
in reply to: Lower your body #5870That’s a great question…one I’ll be glad to see answered as well, JadeKat! Our teachers usually say that your body should form a goblet shape, which would mean that the upper body remains upright.
in reply to: Bikram for weight loss – any stories for me?! #5869I’ve lost 9 pounds in the last 4 weeks doing solely hot yoga (well and running around after a 23 month old!). I’ve got about 30 more pounds to go and I’m hoping that this continues. I do find that my eating habits have changed. I crave different foods, desire less food and drink a ton! It’s been interesting to see how my body is reshaping day by day and definitely is encouraging!
in reply to: How Yoga Will Save My Life (Take 2) #5813Hey finalspinal,
It would be great to have an update on how it’s going….
Happy Wednesday!
in reply to: 30 day challenge #5812Join the fun! 😉
I’m on day 14 and can’t wait to practice each day and see what it brings!
Good luck!
in reply to: So what do you wear? #5811Eventually though, I found, like others, that once class starts, nobody is all that concerned with what someone is wearing. I can’t even remember wha the person in front of me was wearing from the class I took on Saturday.
Bingo! I seriously couldn’t tell you what anyone is wearing around me (except the guy that wears his underwear…but, that’s another story!) I remember being so anxious about what to wear my first day, two months ago. Now it’s what will be the coolest (temperature wise), comfiest and is clean! Good luck in your practice 😀WOW, Robert!!! 🙂
Way to go! I love to hear about others determination, self-awareness, and successes! I’m on day 13 of my 1st 60 day challenge. I’m loving all the changes I am seeing…thanks for inspiring me!
Thanks for the recommendation for YogaBody, bonmar! I’m 8 days into a 60 day challenge and I’m finding I need **something** to help with the generalized soreness. I just ordered YogaBody and can’t wait for it to get here!
Has anyone else found hydration to be connected to an increase in soreness? It’s something that I’d like to explore as I’ve found keeping an appropriate electrolyte balance to be more challenging now that I’m practicing daily.
in reply to: Face and Body Breakouts #5766Great advice, Jayme! Thanks! 🙂
