Hi. Glad you found yoga. I practice Bikram yoga and really love it. What you describe sounds familiar. Since I’ve been practicing I’ve gone through many body pains, breakthroughs, and recoveries. Then I find another body part that is tight, painful, or acting funny and the process starts again. I’ve gone through left hip, left shoulder, and now I’m going through left foot. Sometimes practice is so uncomfortable, but then I feel so much better after. And I know that I have healed my body through yoga and that it’s a never ending process. I would recommend continuing practice to see where you go before you consider surgery. Also, have your teacher check your form to make sure it’s not that. Happy healing!

Hey, Jeff. Good to hear no pain. Do you sweat more than your wife and daughter in class? You might be losing more water than them. Typically men can shed it quicker than women! Your body might just need a little more time to process than them. 4-5 hours doesn’t seem that long to me.

But it does seem to be a problem if you can’t go before bed, and then all the water you’ve been drinking keeps you up all night.

A couple things that might work:

    1. Can you go to an earlier yoga class so you’d have more time to process before bed?
    2. Could you rehydrate only enough after your regular class to make up for your lose but not overhydrate yourself? Then maybe you’d have to get up fewer times in the night.

Hope you can find some relief!

Interesting! You know I’ve never really paid attention to when I go after class. It’s never bothered me to be delayed though. I guess after going so much during pregnancy, if I don’t have the urge — I’m happy!

It sounds like you hydrate more than enough. Do you have any pain or burning either when your waiting or when you urinate? Are you taking any meds or supplements?

I’ve got a similar situation — one hip more open than the other. But, I’ve made a lot of progress. Bikram is so good for helping open your body up bit by bit. I believe the stiffness come s from a lot of things ranging from possible injuries to just your daily activities and the unbalanced strain they put on your body. I think some of my stiffness goes back to childhood! Just keep plugging along. I’ve had breakthroughs where “things” have gone back into place. And it feels so good. Ironically though, after a breakthrough I’ll have additional soreness for awhile as the surrounding muscles get used to the change. So if you’re really interested in finding out exactly where your stiffness is located and how you got it, think about your activities now and in the past.
