in reply to: 30 Day Challenge #3467
question . I am doing a 30 day challenge and something has come up to take me away from home and the studio. I have the cd on my ipod and MAY be able to get to a studio once or twice. If I do the class on cd every day does that count? or am I missing the benefits because of the loss of heat? I’m OK with having to start counting again when I get back and am dedicated enough to my practice to do the cd everyday any way (10 days w/ no yoga?……. I would not want to meet me after that!) any way just looking for advice and know my trip and yoga will be what it be.
in reply to: which should i do less of #3466I too had to adjust my training to fit it all in!!!
I was doing cardio 6x weights 4x then….. hot yoga popped in my life! I LOVED it but also LOVE my other forms of exercise. whats a girl to do? well at first I tried doing it all (that lasted about two weeks!) then after careful self evaluation came to this routine
now hot yoga 6-7x week and alternate my wights and cardio doing each 3x
mon- cardio/yoga
tues – weights/yoga
wed- cardio/yoga
thurs- weights/yoga
fri – cardio/yoga
sat weights/ yoga
sun- OFF
keep in mind this is not for the faint of heart. It is a VERY challenging routine and I have been training for years. good luck!
my best advice is to look inside your own body to decide what feels right for youBE WARE!!!! your thyroid and other glands regulate your temp too. In the class these glands are being “tweaked” and can have an affect. It’s all good stuff, don’t worry, you might however think about getting your thyroid and estrogen levels checked however. I n my case we had to lower my thyroid meds in half and I gained an inch on my boobs (what woman can complain) due to the changes in my body. soon I won’t need any medication!!
even if you don’t have a thyroid condition however, your gland is going into overdrive and your body may need a bit of time to adjust to the changes. during this period you MAY experience symptoms of an overactive thyroid. If you are having toubles sleeping, feeling “speedy”, elevated heart rate, tight in the chest and lungs…. try a cold compress under your throat to calm your system down. I’m out like light when I do this!!!!!My fist class I thought this is HOT I enjoyed it but by the floor I was looking at the clock to get out of the HEAT. I was toast. in my second class I found it challenging but was not obsessing and now I’m ticked if it fells too cool. I love it when its AT LEAST 105. I have a sauna and when I can’t get to the studio for the instruction and people I practice at home!! (110 45%) LOVE it. it’s how I feel from my “bones to my skin inside out” as they say. I hear the same story a lot from others in class too. they’ll come out and say it felt cool today to me…. mabe I’ll come back for noon class…..true
in reply to: Weights and Yoga #3461what I found interesting when I started yoga was how it TOTALLY changed the other ways I trained.
As I did more Yoga my goals, body and needs were clearer and diff than before. AS is the WAY i train now. I used to go into my workouts with ….. Arnold S. mentality and totally kill myself. now…… I “breath in through my nose and out through my nose” and when I applied that frame of mind i am challenged, enjoy myself and leave my work outs refreshed and…… I get better results and am seeing more out of my other training. -
