in reply to: Why can't I stand on the cooler side of the room? #8706
I always encourage listening to YOU about yourself than someone else LOL but another idea too is that how do you know how hot it feels if you ve never sat there?
I know in my practice as Ive moves around Ive hit cool spots and hot spots as well as each day is so diff to my body even if then room stays the same!!!! and through this I can tell you that for me the diff (though there) is not HUGE!!
think about just trying it once …. its not like you re plastered there:lol: if you feel too hot just move (in between poses of course)
think of it like trying a new food for the first time …… you dont have to eat it if you dont like it but how else would you ever know without tasting it!!!
just playing both sidesin reply to: Health Club exercises #8705I also lift my dumbbells and do kickbacks on one leg
in reply to: Forceful Palpatations During Class #8647YES !!!! with a stint and a heart condition the heated exercise may not be the practice for you ….
I would check in with your doctor about it before attending again
everyone with different health issues has different limitationsin reply to: Severe Pain and Immobility #8635I suffered from this and had to go to er and recover….
for me it was the accumulative effect over days and weeks. the first thing you feel is like you just had a REALLY hard work out. you feel drained drained then you start to feel sore and like you may be catching a cold and it just goes on from therein reply to: osteoporosis, fractures and balance #8586I have a hip fracture due to osteoporosis …
heres what my therapists have told me
you want to avoid any torching or stress on a bone
your hips back and wrists are the most vulnerable and will go first.
weight bearing is good and will build density so the standing postures are very good (maybe using a back wall to help to avoid falling and getting hurt) I know at my studio they have bars for this in back of room
whith the hips be careful and DO NOT go past a slight stretch sensation
same in spine twist do NOT PUSH but just light turnin reply to: cartilage tear in my hip #8556Im not gab but… heres my two cents lol
when dealing with hyperflexiblity you dont want to focus on stretch as much as strength
really tighten and contract your hips in these poses (dont forget about making your butt like two little coconuts!!)
I would not go into the pose very deep to feel stretch
it should feel like your pressing gently against a wall
stretching one side flexing the other having the two forces meet in the middlein reply to: stress fracture #8317you do not want to finish off the fracture by putting stress on it
that means no weight bearing or twisting or stressing in any way
prob crutches for 6 to 8 weeks for the bone to fill in and heal
sorry
I had hip fracture due to stress fracture and you DO NOT want a complete break do youin reply to: feeling totally agitated… #8093I find I get that pumped and agitated irritability after class if I push too hard or the room is too hot ect…. something that my sets my flight or fight response physically. It then can take me awhile to calm down…… if I have the mentality that this is just yoga and go in to breathe relax and stretch I come out on cloud nine 🙂
in reply to: Establishing a sustainable practice… #8081I AM white but…… I do not wash my hair everyday either to avoid dryness and just because we really dont need to .
after and during class if I’m choosing not to wash my hair that day I just wear a band to minimize the amount going into my hair and then after run my fingers through with a little water
good luck and let my know what you thinkyes… from one compulsive thing (addiction to whatever) to another HAVING to do the yoga …….. I dont know about you but I am an addict at heart and when I like something I tend to run with it LOL I have to keep myself in check
too much of anything is not a good thing (even yoga) …. it can start to interfere with your daily life if you let it
IE: missing events and work to go…. ect
as long as you keep it in perspective however all is good :cheese:in reply to: Amazing teachers #8021I’m with you there jtcb – those are great attributes!
I know I can use times when the teacher is similar to your least favorite to focus on “non-attachment” ie not let it bother me (and as you say, focus on your own practice, your own body) but frankly … I vote with my feet.
Anyway, I’m spoiled. I have “the doc” herself as my personal teacher 😉
It’s good to hear stories of the inspirational teachers around our world!
NICE
thats too cute …. I do have teachers I prefer but I dont let it get to me too much
If I start to get wrapped up in something I remind myself that my higher power knows what I need better than I do and if this is what he gave me …..
1. it must be what I need that day
2. I better open my eyes and learn it now or he may make me do it again !! LOLin reply to: Chronic Pain #7990are you on crutches or just rest after about 10 15 mins?
in reply to: Wedding ring is breaking my concentration #7985here here !!! I love that feeling of reconnecting by putting it back on
in reply to: Wedding ring is breaking my concentration #7976I have a similar prob… have you tried talking to her about it??
I do have to take mine offin reply to: Hot yoga and now behind is gone = ( #7963I call my bottom my bikram bum LOL because it toned it up and made it round and full and lifted up
in reply to: Question after more than a year #7962did you talk to your teachers about possible condition changes in the studio???? did they put in a new system or are turning it up in temp for some reason?
I know at my studio the opp happened … I was sweating and getting amax work out then gradually I noticed I was sweating less and feeling colder ….. long story short they turned it down LOL
also over the last year how often do you practice??? does your system just need a month or week or a bit of time off?in reply to: Blood sugar levels #7902yes I too know that when I take a class (or do any intense workout) my levels spike up
My doc has told me this is a normal reaction and we discussed how to handle it
I would just talk it overin reply to: Balancing in Standing Bow. #7847my physio told me that that falling asleep sensation is from tightness and nerves………. your chest is tight and when you reach and open it up it tingles..
as for your foot cramping …… are you curling in or tensing your foot? some unnecessary tension in the area may be the culprit??
or it could just simply be needing to build more strengthin reply to: Floor surface? #7821I think taking a step or two back in depth on carpet and connecting with the new challenge would be good as long as I said you are mindful that it is more difficult
in reply to: Thyroid condition and Hot Yoga Question. #7820the more I practice the lesser the dose of med I need ??!!!
I am in Kamloops BC …. so yes it is LOL
in reply to: Help me stay motivated #7758they key to staying motivated when it comes to a big lifestyle change like this (not just yoga but your aspirations of health and loosing weight ) is to go slow and keep it realistic, dont tell yourself your going to give everything up and attend 6 classes a week ect. start with small goals (like going to your first class!! ) and go from there mark each success
I am 32 years old and I had no idea I even had compression fractures until we did a full body scan after I broke my hip. I usure you my ortho surgeon and physio therapist know everything I do LOL I think they have cameras up sometimes :-S
I take forteo injections which is a new and tested med to build bone layers recommended only for extreme cases.
like I said i go through the motions of the pose and get in slow and dont torc on anythingI have severe osteo and have two compression fractures. I take daily injections for my bones. I do the postures in full just with caution and slowly without stain. I do the posture but dont put any umph into it :cheese: I go slow and easy and listen to my body
