I do have SOME insight in terms of weak hips and bones in general and yoga. I broke my hip due to high risk osteo fragility and am currently taking am injection for it. I know in MY case I am ‘safe’ depending on how I practice. I just have to use slow gentle pressure (how it should be anyway) and avoid any activity jarring and sudden. Some poses more so than others. There a A LOT of the postures that are focused on the hips (infact most!) but to name few eagle spine twist seperate leg standing head to knee just about all of them involve the hips … toe stand and tree and triangle ect. They all have impacted my healing in such different ways. Any way too I know hip replacements and a pinned hip have different limitations on them after surgery so PLEASE dont tell to go gung hoe just be careful LOL
I would look at what are MY limits and why and then make a judgement call. For example I was advised not to do yoga because of my weak bones (not broken hip) I looked at the advice and why it was given and I do what feels right in my body. I hope that helps at all and if you have any more questions … ask !! any time 🙂

Done week two and still feeling FAB. Not dragged out, tired sore, or ANYTHING.. I can not tell you how excited I am about this! I have been feeling SO good. I went to my physio and he was BLOWN w/ my range in my hip. Before I broke it (right hip) my left side was my strong side and right weak so breaking it was…. frustrating because obviously it now even WEAKER and further out in comparison. now .. LOL my right is actually my strong side! Too funny.

Gab …. I would not be where I am today w/o all your help and personal attention.
I am not even noticing the pins in my stretches!! I am thinking I might not have to get them out after all and ANY time we can avoid getting cut into the better LOL Any way doing well.

I am worried too when I read this post. There is something your body is REALLY trying to tell you! Either not enough water or energy for what you are doing. I also cannot speak to it without knowing your routines and HOW you practice. That being said the BEST explanation I EVER heard about about this yoga was this….
Are you type A personality? my answer … yes
in yoga we need to give a true 110 %, you need to give your 80% because as a type A are already giving 150 !
Type B types give ‘their’ 150% and need to be pushed to find the true 110%

I found this SO lifting! Not just in yoga but in my other activities and and in LIFE. AHHHH! You mean I don’t have to kill myself all the time .. 🙂 ‘my’ 80% is a where MY balance and ‘sweet’ spot is. Not just in yoga as I said but everywhere. I don’t need to be superwoman !!! I can suddenly breathe 🙂

I did and finished my first week w/ out ANY problems and feeling fab. As I said I was able to hydrate properly for a 6:30 am practice and fit my new practice into life w/o much effort. Before my daughter came home I used to have a reg practice 6-7x week and have not had that in 6 months. (2-3x week at MOST since, not including my hip too!) I missed it! Though I needed a little break to process in different ways and A LOT has happened in my life…….. I have come to the conclusion that this is just where my practice feels the best. I have done my practice at many different levels 2x all the way to 7x w/ some doubles. Everyone is so different, and can do 3x and feel awesome (though it is good) i find for me not quite enough. I was finding like I was starting over every time and just not getting the same peace and calm i find at 6. Any way.. I have done enough spouting and thanks for listening. will keep you all posted.
PS gab and bonnie my hip is AWESOME in ALL poses and feeling GREAT! also started the forteo injections for my bones and had no reactions or nausea ect. WHEW!

well, I went to class yesterday and I’ve got the sauna heating right now for my second class! I have had not good experience w/ a 6:30 class in the past just due to it being harder to be hydrated enough before hand. But I have not done it in a LONG time and after making some adjustments will give it another go.
my fav time is the 9:00 class but I can’t afford daycare that much and now am doing mon wed fri in studio.
I CAN do it in the sauna w/ her napping (my norm time at home) but it is getting harder as she gets older… one and two in the late afternoon is just not my best time ( I find the more I put in my belly ie : the later the class) the more bloated and yucky I feel.
Amy way am going to give it go and I will keep you posted but long story short… I am on my road to 30 days…….. and who knows I may just keep driving ?!

try touching your forearms to your shins keeping them pointed back and grabbing for more behind rather than beside. remember to keep your elbows facing the back while doing this and keeping shoulders down. that should challenge you more in the pose. try that and lat me know good luck

yes the rooms CAN be too hot for sure. They REALLY should not be above around the 100 mark. talk to the owner(s) and to others who come if the majority speaks up they will have to listen. It also will feel hotter the more humid in the room. and that plays a HUGE role too. may be why your feeling it now as opposed to when you first started. (The season and weather is changing 😉 )
keep calm and focus only on your breathe. back off in the poses to accomplish this if and when needed and good luck.

It seems like when people do this it is to compensate for weaker muscles. I had a similar issue of leaning on my hip after I broke it because my adductors were not strong enough to support me. What helped me was standing w/ my toes and heels together and hips in alignment. Then engage the quads and the muscles in one leg, then lift the other foot off the ground and just feel STRONG on the one leg. The other one that helped was sitting in a chair and lifting one leg up and holding it out parallel as long as I could.
Now my leg is strong and solid being supported by muscle and NOT my skeletal system. ( which is where people get hip, knee and foot pain in these poses)

I have been making beautiful progress w/ my hip and then for a bit felt like I was hitting a brick wall. there was certain types of movements that my hip just felt ……. STOPPED. It was frustrating because there IS so much I can do and that does get better every class. When it comes to certain type of hip opening though my hip was just cement. I was (and am) very gentle w/ it because I was thinking it was more bone or pin related than soft tissue. I am very body aware and it JUST did not feel the same Any way I was curious about it and could not wait to see my x-ray and find out. Do I still have a crack? how far along am I? ect.
So I had my x-ray and surprise!!!!!!!!! I AM fully healed 🙂 the actual bone he said is all well and not only healed but in perfect alignment. I showed him what I can do and where I am BRICKED up. He said what was happening is that the pins(because I am so tiny and the pins are too long for me) are rubbing and pressing on the tissue on the outside of my hip. He said if it is painful or bothersome we CAN go in and take them out. I am going to give it another month to see if anything happens and If it gets worst or better ( I AM not even quite two months in yet and it takes three to FULLY recover)
Then I went to class yesterday…… and my hip DID make some headway! WHEW.

I start my injections this week and am hoping that it won’t effect my practice but am keeping realistic about that as well. I may feel a little sick for a hour or so after…. and have to take them with in a certain window of time each day. I was hoping to be able to take them before going to bed but the nurse gives you the first injection and you have to follow that time window. I will let you know but am being hopeful that all will be well. the clinic JUST called yesterday… and I was not expecting to start this soon …. but it needs to be done.
