in reply to: Natural body builder and Bikram Yoga #7116
IF this feels good to your body then I would not change anything but…. if you are looking for a change I would suggest a banana about 30 mins before and then some coconut milk during which has sugar and other nutrients in it to keep you going but are slow acting so they dont cause that high and low I was talking about. I’m not saying NOT to eat carbs just beware of fast acting sugars and/or having a higher blood sugar level before class. If intense, the heat and exercise can cause a raise in blood sugars for a variety of reasons.
in reply to: my studio is SMELLY! #7102I was curious too why the carpet ????? why does it matter to him??
in reply to: Natural body builder and Bikram Yoga #7101I’ll take a shot..
WHen you exercise in heat in effects your glycogen in ways that normal exercise does not so BEWARE. What happens in the heat is that all of your blood and bodies energy are needed to cool your system down. Your digestion and other organs (including your liver which normally handle this) shut down and go temp go to sleep as to not interfere with your cooling. When this is going on there is an incredible spike causing your insulin and sugar levels to raise. SO if you ‘carb up’ your body is not absorbing anything causing even MORE sugar coursing through your body and even higher blood sugar levels……… hence the crash after class. I would simply hydrate well and replenish after. wait for your system to return to normal (about 30 mins) and then listen and feel what your body is telling you you need….
a supplement bcaa with little or no sugar would be good or even just a reg protein drink
the key here is though is NOT to carb up because of what is happening chemically in your body.in reply to: Infrared vs Traditional heat??? #7076though infared is AWESOME and way better i was told when building my home studio that it would take way too many panels to be effective so not to waste my $$$$$
in reply to: Laser Eye Surgery #7064I can not speak for laser eye surgery but I can speak about surgery in general. I’ve had minor and major procedures done and from the minor stuff like scopes and endoscopies ect I was feeling fine and ready to go with in a couple of days with my major stuff ( i broke my hip and had four surgeries to fix it finally getting a hip replacement ) It was about two or three weeks to enter the hot room though on a limited practice and slowly building back.
in reply to: a story to share #7062was asked to be in a commercial for my studio!!! we filmed today and had a blast
in reply to: What to eat after a later yoga class #7038I cant speak for your body but for mine a good healthy snack or smoothy would be great. A nice real probiotic yogurt with a banana or maybe some cottage cheese and dates. Whatever floats your boat!!!
in reply to: a story to share #7037am now on day 37 !!! where WILL this all go???!!
tight and stiff muscles and joints are a sign of overuse… could be you are pushing too hard and flexing unneeded areas. creating undue stress
in reply to: The brand names for humidifiers. #7029you can get hot air ones as well as cool look in the pharmacy section of a grocery store or walmart ect
in reply to: a story to share #7010finishing on saturday and wondering …. hum how to bring it home with a bang, ideas???
in reply to: Modifications for bad backs? #7006I know for me with tight shoulders found that I could not (at first) release and was bringing them up around my ears. If your shoulders are doing this half moon then its a good bet that bow floor bow and camel have the same shoulder earring accessories:-) were you going back with hands on hips on on heels?
in reply to: Back pain & tightness since starting Bikram #6977it may not feel like your pushing too hard in class but your flanks and lower back are still really being worked!!!! so try just really backing off and see how it feels
in reply to: Back pain & tightness since starting Bikram #6972It sounds like the flank muscles are getting tight from being over used in class. You are prob just pushing a little to hard in the side and back bends:-P In half moon DONT push just breathe and do a light stretch to the side. In back bends make sure you lift in the chest then bend back but mostly with your upper spine. You should NOT feel a big compression in your lower back and it should not be painful
I think its a matter of just doing what you love!!! I LOVE to cross train and it does have its own benfefits…. play around see what works for you. I would think it useful to add some cardio to increase your endurance in this capacity. like the poster before said… I you want to run well you have to run LOL
in reply to: a story to share #6953just to let you all know i’m on day 20 of my challenge and finishing up next Saturday the 8th. Doing AWESOME and loving it.
in reply to: What are the benefits of a 30-day challenge #6947it is important to listen and honor… yoga and a challenge will always be there. just think how much sweeter it will be when you do cross that finish line because you had to work that much harder to get there. besides its not about the 30 day or 60 day tag/line it about what we learn and accomplish out of doing it. This experience will teach you so much more about yourself and force you to grow in ways. You’ve learned humility and how to be mature in stepping back when you needed to. 😛
There are tons of post about practice on the road or at home 🙂 I think the point is not so much about the external heat but just your BODY be warmed up. This will happen through the series itself as well as doing your own warm up before you start. You can throw down some sun salutations or even something similar to an aerobic warmup. You should have no worries keeping up while your away
in reply to: What are the benefits of a 30-day challenge #6940yes this is very normal…. for two reasons
one : you are connecting with yourself in a new and intense way so it will uncover emotions and issues
two: when your body is under stress your defenses are down so you are more sensitivein reply to: Numbness in thumbs #6933if you are tight in the chest and then that it releases up that will cause this (as per my physio therapist explaining that to me)
in reply to: Sacroilliac Joint Injury #6920what does your therapist say about it???
in reply to: Sinking into Hips #6918I would experiment and see what feels right and best for you! Maybe on the first set sink and in the second focus on the strength.
in reply to: a story to share #6898too excited!!! first week in class with NO modifications so good to get back to my old practice… like coming home. feeling rekindled with my beginners mind and all fresh again 😛
in reply to: Ankle sprain (should i continue exercise?) #6890with a tear you DONT want to stretch it out any more so I would avoid the yoga for a while. tears can take a long time to heal so keep checking in with your doctor
