in reply to: How Yoga Will Save My Life (Take 2) #5179
Looking forward to the updates and the new relationship CONGRATS and welcome back
in reply to: So what do you wear? #5178I LOVE the direction this is going….. if you are comfy nothing else matters. When I look in the mirror I am happy w/ not only what I see but WHO I see. That is the most important thing to me. I am at peace w/ my body not just despite my imperfections but BECAUSE of them… they make me me. Good for you and keep it up.
in reply to: How Yoga Will Save My Life (Take 2) #5174I have a thought or two on this as well….. think of yourself as that a NEW person coming in. In other words not the person who used to practice, or even the guy you were taking that FIRST class… you are you now. Remember too it takes about two weeks for your body to adjust to exercise in the heat so be gentle take it slow and take a knee when you need it. Try starting w/ every other day or wherever you eel comfortable. Don’t expect a 14 class practice off the cuff!! BREATH and have fun meeting the people too. ENJOY and keep us posted
in reply to: Standing Separate Leg Intense Stretch #5157I hear you…. I am really flex. in my legs (and short too LOL so that DOES help) and going into this I focus on feeling first a nice pull and lengthen in my legs and hips then I stretch my spine downward and get a beautiful release and lengthening through my spine. It feels like I am hanging from a bar and letting each notch in my spine grow apart.
I do love this onein reply to: Better ability to use nutrients from food? #5148I amaze people at the food I pack away!!! (myself included sometimes) LOL and yes that DOES seem a bit low. Mabe what is happening is that your body is not getting ENOUGH? Therefore holding tightly on to what you have in worry that it won’t be fed. I too want to say congrats on the inches which is what really matter after all (next to our mental and emotional health and benefits I feel) good luck
in reply to: So what do you wear? #5147well …. you can three things that I can think of
1. wear clothing w/ built in underwear
2. a g-string (which has its own + and – )
3. cope w/ the undies as best you can 🙁I myself go commando in my yoga shorts and find the only camel I need to worry about is the posture! (LOL SORRY)
Long story I find it comfy and don’t find anything ‘mixing’ twisting or chaffing.in reply to: Hot Yoga v Bikram Yoga #5117as far as I know the ‘hot yoga’ studios are uncertified by Bikram and there for cannot carry his name. Some hot studios do diff types of classes in the heat as well as the bikram sequence.
Hello
I wanted to throw out my experience w/ knee pain and alignment. As we all know our feet effect our ankle in turn effect our knee which goes to our hip and lower back rest of spine ect….. When I broke my hip I discovered (after a long time walking with pain in my knee LOL) that my where my ‘new’ hip was, was not the same!. The gait I was used to was in turn causing my knee to do a slight twist tot he outside. My standing head to knee and bow and tree and eagle were ALL very effected and did not feel right in the knee OR hip. I was so focused on the healing of my hip and keeping it straight, but once I realized what was happening I shifted my alignment FOCUS. Rather than working from hips down I worked from feet up! Just food for thought. Does that make sense?
PS Now I have NO pain in my kneein reply to: low sodium #5061a norm sodium is 136-145 just for fyi any other ideas about what it could be???? any other health issues?
in reply to: low sodium #5058this is a post close to heart for me because I was treated overnight in the hospital for low sodium (117) this can happen I was told by the docs two ways….. one sudden and the other chronic or over a period of time. I CAN NOT nor will I attempt to speak for your experience but here is what my case was like…………
I too was getting slowly more drained and tired and unable to sleep
I was up ALL hours as you said peeing AND TMI but having problems holding my bladder in some cases
I did not have the extreme loss of fluid (ie tears and sweat) as you described but I DID gain 5 lbs in water weight
one day all of a sudden I got really fuzzy and funny and I knew something was really wrong. I drove to the ER and was treated. Told to take tablets as you were and given a better education about the amount of I water I actually do need in a day (even on Bikram days) 2 litres w/o class and 3 w class MAX not the 4-6 I was drinking LOL Long story short … I was drinking too much water and diluting my blood sodium,
Now I take one tab before and one after limit my water to a more appropriate amount and after over a month of a 6x per week practice and 3 tests… I come back a SOLID 139 and feel GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!in reply to: Depression and Bikram Yoga #5042I am so pleased to hear from you and that things are still moving forward for you. My new email is [email protected] and I would love to keep in touch.
in reply to: Emotions Coming Up #5029I had a class once where I came to the studio feeling really well ……. Then we started the breathing! I was streaming tears before the first set was done. Breathing and crying WAS a little difficult LOL I learned so much that class…. One pose I would be washed with sad the next anger then I would laughing. It was the strangest most beautiful gratifying experience. So yes it DOES happen to others and enjoy the feelings!
in reply to: Sodium & Potassium #5019I have heard a lot about coconut water and did look into it but it just did not feel right…… can you tell me more? Mabe I was looking at a different form of it ………
in reply to: humidifiers #5002I have just a regular home model we got from home depot. I do love it in the dry winter but the one down side is they do blow a cooler air and it tends to drop the temp so you just have to experiment w/ it good luck
in reply to: March 30-day challenge #5001LOl I know what you mean!! It is hard to stop and frankly I always say… if it feels good, and is good for you DO IT !
Of course we do need a break now and then (hence the AND IF IT IS GOOD FOR YOU)

in reply to: Sodium & Potassium #4977i see my doc and ask for a FULL electrolyte test (blood and urine work up)
in reply to: I did it !!! #4974it was so good! a totally different experience than the time before….. i was SO relaxed and tired. The last time i was full of gusto and had a strong focused practice. This time I just melted (and not from the heat LOL) when i came home instead of feeling energized, I was relaxed, calm and yes….TIRED ! AWESOME I woke up still in LA LA land
I myself shower right away… though by the time I do get tot he shower I am air dried so to speak!! When I get out of class I put my stuff away get my shower stuff out and go to the bathroom ect…
I noticed in the studio it’s about 50 – 50 people who shower there and those that leave,in reply to: Sodium & Potassium #4968I take an electrolyte tab recommended by my doc. i also get ALL levels checked about once a month good luck
