in reply to: knee pain due to lack of flexibility/arthritis #8198
Hope variations of the postures can help you.
I’ve seen folks doing that kind of thing.
hope you’re doing well.in reply to: Planning to go next week. Some question. #68301. hydrate well in the days prior to going to your first class
2. don’t be a hero, go slowly and stop when it gets too much
3. stay in the room, do not leave, just being in the hot room is good for you even if you are not doing the exercizes
4. try not to fidget, it wastes energy
5. have some energy drink for yourself after class, drink only water while in the hot yoga roomin reply to: Healthy women over 50 and Hot Yoga #6785I’ve seen 60, 70-yr olds doing hot yoga, getting through their first class with no issues, no sitting, and enjoying.
in reply to: Day 17 Class number 22 #6729I am impressed you have gotten to day 22.
don not put so much pressure on yourself.
just enjoy the yoga.
You are doing great! From what I understand, the sweat on the skin actually helps keep the body cool.
in reply to: Night Sweats #6650how interesting – this happened to me earlier this week. I am not new to Bikram but this is.
My body was real hot as I readied for bedtime. Then the nightsweats.
Glad I am not alone, thanks for the explainations.in reply to: Fantastic Yoga Tops #6102I like a good amount of coverage as well.
Some of those little bitty tops look like they could snap off and fly across the room like a rubber band!
Enjoy your practice.in reply to: room not hot #5934You must be very careful.
Try wear long pants and a sweatshirt, this will keep you body warm.
I would not go into the postures deeply.great link, thank you.
Are there not ways that the Bikram Yoga alone can work on the core of the body and gain strength that way. I was hoping for that, but will look into applying this as well.
in reply to: need advice – first back to back class #5315I change my costume and towel for the mat.
I replace electrolytes and hydrate.in reply to: Ladies, Please your advice #5282Title Nine
shop by activity: http://www.titlenine.com/jump.jsp?itemType=CATEGORY&itemID=705in reply to: feeling nauseous during the middle of class #5107I would try to make sure you are well-hydrated the day before and the hours before the class.
Hydration is KEYin reply to: Pimples a form of detoxing? #4759I tried showering after class. . . but I find the water sooooo cold after heating my body up.
So I drive home and shower then.I think you are working up a good appetite in there and eventually your interest in high fat salty foods will decrease.
You might even want to concientiously switch to a tuna salad sandwich. Maybe even a fruit smoothie to replenish yourself.
Enoy!in reply to: Food energy #4491I have no problem-o’s with the eggs. They are the perfect protein, absorbs quickly and then the egg yolks are the perfect fat.
in reply to: Food energy #4488For a 4pm class I am thinking a hearty bow of oatmeal around noon.
I take a 10am class – I start the day out with 4 eggwhites and 2 yolks.
in reply to: How do you breathe when you are in this posture? #4405I am no expert, but if your stomach/chest moves away from you , you might have to bend the knees a bit and go for there, just to give yourself a little “breathing room” until you are able to bring it all the way and be able to breath.
in reply to: How much does everyone sweat? #4377I think sweat, and how much ad how early is an indication of how efficient your body is.
The body heats up, and reacts by it’s cooling mechanism.in reply to: Smelly sweat #4329I was being treated for bronchial pneumonia last Fall. I was put on some heavy duty antibiotics.
During the floor series the instructor asked if I was taking medication.
I guess my space offered something extra in the smell department.
She said only that it was noticeable with all the time she spends in the yoga room.in reply to: Pear shape and thighs and bikram #4249I go very regularly.
Lost quite a bit over the summer (legs) and was getting nice compliments from my fellow practitioners.
Then during the Fall gained some weight back as I was fighting an infection.
On January 1 started a 30-day challenge, which is when I believe my body pushed itself into this next phase of weight loss.
I would not say I am someone who loses weight easily from the thighs or other parts of the body.
Now I am back to my regular 3 or 4 day a week routine.in reply to: Pear shape and thighs and bikram #4245wow I was just thinking about this today.
I have lost quite a bit of weight on my legs. i think that is the first step in all this cause now there is no more weight to lose there, and it is starting to really melt off my hips and butt. So keep it up ! And, enjoy!in reply to: 30 Day Challenge Difficulties #4197Congratulations on day 19!
Well, yes I just finished a challenge and the same thing happened to me. I could always do Standing Head to Knee and then all of a sudden, could not longer hook my webbed interlaced hands under my foot.
I think it’s just all the work you;re doing on your body.
I took a full body massage once a week. Another 30-day challenger took to seeing his chiropractor 2x per week.
And, might I add, I took the occasional aspirin in the evenings.
Enjoy the rest of your challenge, good luck, feel better, have a good practice.
From what I found, this refers to kidney function:
Bikram recommends performing the whole series religiously, working extra hard and long on those poses listed below as being excellent for kidney function and abdominal organs. Your body can and will right itself.
Half moon
Eagle
Standing Bow and Bow
Standing separate leg stretching, and standing separate leg stretching forehead to knee
Triangle
Wind Removing Pose
Half Tortoise
Camel
Rabbit
Seated Head to Knee with Stretching Pose
Spinal Twistin reply to: Heat reaction #4165maybe your body needs to get used to this.
I think the temp needs to go UP ! to around 109F
What does your studio owner/instructor say about this reaction?
