in reply to: How low can you go in eagle pose? #3961
Thank you Gabrielle. I am sure I will have fun with this pose from now on!
in reply to: Painful neck and shoulders in standing head to knee #3943Hi Gabrielle and BonMar.
I have tried the pose again today and I’ve checked whether I put the weight of my leg in my hands. I think I do a little bit, but very little. I have also tried to lift all the weight from my hands but then I felt it all in my hip, and I don’t know if that’s right. I am a bit confused now…

in reply to: The sound of Pranayama Breathing #3936Hi Gabrielle,
unfortunately I am still unsure about this breathing. I can do the exhale like you explain it in your book and video, but the inhale I still don’t really get it.
Am I constricting my throat the same way for both the inhale and the exhale or are they completely different?Thank you

in reply to: Angle of the arms to the body #3935Hi Gabrielle,
I just wanted to thank you because your explanation of this pose really changed it for me. In your book it’s all really clear and I really enjoy my full locust now, it’s much more satisfying and it makes so much sense. With my hands and arms in the right position I can go up more now and I don’t hurt my left shoulder anymore, which I often did.
Thank you very much for all your work!

in reply to: The sound of Pranayama Breathing #3827Hi Gabrielle,
thank you for your reply. It was very helpful. And I have also watched your video again, just in case… 😉 I think I am ready to become a perfect hairdryer!!Thank you

in reply to: the secret to head to knee pose #3782Yes, I have read and watched everything on your web site because I love it! 😉
After reading your replies to my other posts I suspected that my dissatisfaction with this pose could be related to the interlocking of my thumbs…so I will try this pose soon with all my newly acquired wisdom on that matter 🙂
I am expecting wonders!Thank you
Ps: I would love it if one day you decided to put more of your own photos on the web site. I am not saying that your students are not good, their photos are definitely helpful for where I am and I am able to correct my mistakes. But seeing someone that is far more advanced than we are is incredibly inspiring and motivating. This is why I keep looking at your head to knee…there’s a lot of passion there!
in reply to: Thumbs don't stay interlocked, is that OK? #3781I can’t wait to try everything without interocking my thumbs! I am so excited!
Thank you very much

in reply to: Kapalbhati Breathing setup #3780Ahhhh! Arms relaxed makes so much sense to me! Finally!
The only way I can reach my knees with my hands is if I keep my arms straight, my shoulders tense and my back leaning a bit forward. Which is not good, as you said. And it didn’t feel good because I was all closed up, and the compression of my chest made me feel I never had enough air!
So from now on: spine straight, shoulders down and back, arms relaxed (naturally bent) and hands wherever they end up?
This is great Gabrielle! Thank you very very much!
in reply to: Thumbs don't stay interlocked, is that OK? #3777Yes, I have been told to interlock my thumbs in wind removing pose, standing head to knee and head to knee.
The consequences are:1. in wind removing I am basically pushing my knee with my wrists
2. in standing head to knee (part 1) I am resting my foot on my wrists/bottom of my hands
3. in standing head to knee (part 2) I am pushing my foot against my wrists/bottom of my hands, which, as I said makes me feel so short that I can’t even think of straightening my back
4. in head to knee I have the same problem of standing head to knee (part 2), but what I can’t do is round my spine properly and obviously bend my arms to reach the floor with my elbowsSometimes, after looking at your photos, I have released my thumbs in all three poses and the results have been incredible! But I felt I was cheating…
Thanks for your help! I can’t wait to get your book!
in reply to: Thumbs don't stay interlocked, is that OK? #3774Hi Gabrielle,
I have been trying to keep my thumbs interlocked for so long because that’s what I was taught to do! That’s why I couldn’t move to the second part! With the palms of my hands almost touching, I couldn’t straighten my back, so I kept going back to the first part.
I’ve got the same problem with other poses.
Is the interlocking always the same? I mean: wind removing pose, standing separate leg head to knee pose, head to knee pose?
Thank you
Martina
in reply to: the secret to head to knee pose #3770Hi Fraseram and thanks for sharing your experience.
Could you explain a bit more about the shoulders? I understand that I don’t have to hunch them, but when I push my shoulders away from my ears the pose makes even less sense to me! How exactly do you put them? What other muscles are you paying attention to? Are you using your arms? Your back? And why is the forehead to the knee so important? And do you feel any satisfaction? And why? Maybe I should stop here… 😉
Thank you
in reply to: Floor bow: why are wrists straight? #3697Gabrielle, your answers are incredible! Next time I do floor bow I will check whether my arms are relaxed or not.
The photo I couldn’t attach the other day refers to the question about the rotation of the feet. I’ll try to make it smaller and I’ll attach it again.
Thank you
in reply to: Floor bow: why are wrists straight? #3683Floor bow has always been one of my favourite poses….until I read this post!
I got sooo upset when I read about the wrists. I was happy with my bow and I was improving it all the time lifting my legs higher and higher and feeling a better stretch every time. I felt relieved by that stretch.
But now? No bent wrists? So I can’t really grab my feet, can I?In a moment of despair I searched on line and I found some floor bow photos. It’s not that I don’t trust you, Gabrielle, (otherwise I wouldn’t have bought your book), it’s just that I still want to hope that I can keep my bow, even if I now know that i can’t!
The funny thing is that I have actually found some photos and one of them is from some Bikram yoga champion whose wrists ARE bent! Imagine how happy I was when I saw it!
I am going to attach the photo because I need to know what you think. Then there’s another photo: this time the girl is not bending her wrists but she’s rotating her feet a bit. Is that correct? When I tried not to bend my wrists I had the same problem with my feet.
The third photo is from Bikram web site and I just wonder if this is floor bow at all. It says so on the web site but the girl’s holding her feet from the front.
I hope you’ve got some good news, Gabrielle.
Thank you
Martina
For some reason I can’t attach the second photo…I hope you can explain the rotation of the feet anyway.
in reply to: How to progress into full camel #3640This is just great!
Thank you!in reply to: First part of locust: how and why… #3639Ahhhh! I understand now! It makes so much sense!
Yes, you are right to think that many people (I was one of them) just pretend to do something in the first part of the pose and then wait for the second part as if it was the only part worth making any effort for!
I will try everything you said as soon as I can!
Thank you!
in reply to: how to swap your legs keeping your arms up #3626Hi Gabrielle,
I’ve tried again today and I managed to move my legs without help. I guess it was mainly because you told me it’s possible, which might sound silly, but it’s often the reason why sometimes people can’t do something. I kept thinking that maybe it was impossible for me. So once I heard you couldn’t do either at the beginning I felt relaxed and I tried with a curious attitude.
Thank you
in reply to: How to progress into full camel #3625Thank you Gabrielle!
I have tried what you said today for the first time and I felt, as you said, a bit scared, but at the same time I am finally excited about this pose again! I feel I’ve got a new game to play! I am starting my journey in search of my toes …of course I didn’t see any today, but I’m sure I will because I know what to do now! Also: good question Meissa! I was really curious about the next stage too!!
in reply to: exact meaning of "legs together" #3612Thank you for your fast reply.
I have seen all your videos and they’re really interesting. I hope you keep posting more.
This web site is such a great idea! Well done!Martina
in reply to: exact meaning of "legs together" #3609That was very helpful. Thank you.
Just one more thing, as you’ve mentioned bunions.
When someone has bunions, if they keep their feet square to the mirror their heels might not touch. Is that ok anyway?Martina
